In this review we revisit the Gravity camp for a look at their full finger slide glove. We also take a good look at the Timeship Bearpaw. Both of these gloves fufill the full finger need that is preferential to many sliders. Both of these gloves are for the rider looking for some solid protection and maximum spread of sliding surface. Many people have felt the soft sting of pavement removing fingertips. With these gloves that will not be a problem. Gravity Full Glove

Construction

Velcro and Rivet Puck Attach System
High quality leather
Breathable foam
Wrist Strap With Velcro Closure
Retail $30.00
Buy them from Gravity at gravityboard.com

These gloves are similar in many ways to the half palm glove Gravity first came out with. This product has now become one of the hardest gloves for Gravity to keep in stock, the leather palm and foam backing lend to a solid glove that is still moderately breathable. The Foam is not the most rugged material and will tear if abused however under normal testing conditions the only damage they sustained was to be expected. The puck size is similar to the half palm, however with the two additional finger spock style you have two more pucks. The Velcro wrist strap is snug and gives some moderate support when bound. The construction is good and the gloves are well worth the price.

Sliding

The UHMW is quality however within a few serious sessions you will be swapping out pucks, the pucks on these gloves lasted many more sessions than the half gloves did. The spread area for sliding gives the pucks a great deal of distribution so the pucks last longer. The gloves breathe very well and do not heat up much when being worn this is a major effect of using the foam backhand. The Velcro mounts on the pucks allow the puck to extend a bit when caught preventing the full puck from ripping off in most cases. The pucks themselves have a moderately rounded edge allowing them to hop over most road deformities. The material of the pucks is a great asset to slowing down whereas with some gloves speed loss by putting hands down these gloves can be used to scrub moderate speed without having to break into a slide. The split pucks allow for most mobility although you don’t really have use of your hands you can still grab rail and carry your deck.

Conclusion

As far as solid slide gauntlets go for the price you can’t beat them. The glove itself holds up to a good amount of abuse and as far as preferences go these gloves became favorites of two of our testers who swore by the benefit of the finger pucks for edging around corners. I liked these gloves for the wrist strap and the extra slide coverage. If you are thinking of getting a glove that can hold up to learning new slides or some gloves that can stand high speed scrubbing these are a good buy. The pucks although they may wear quickly are easily replaced or purchased from gravity. All in all a quality slide glove. Once again Gravity brings a solid slide glove at an economical price to those looking to slide.

Timeship Bearpaw

Construction

Dual Pucks with Velcro Attach System
Split Hide Leather
Large Wrist Opening
Velcro Wrist Closure
Soft Inner Lining
Retail $49.00
Buy them from Timeship Racing at timeshipracing.com
Gloves also come with a great slide reference sheet

These gloves are beasts, huge leather gauntlets that enclose your hand in a slide savy glove, the inner lining is very soft and the wrist closure is big enough to wear wrist guards with. The Velcro closure is strong and stays closed easy. The timeship logo is branded on the wrist of the glove making it seem even more solid. The leather is high quality and the stitching is exacting and leaves no weak spots. The leather seems to be very abrasive resistant and the pucks are secured in dual puck fashion one for the palm and another bar puck for the fingers.

Sliding

I have never worn a glove that made me feel so secure with slides, the gauntlets themselves fully insulate you from the street there is no way you are going to rip through the leather in any but the most horrible bail. The dual puck system provides plenty of surface area for slides and the pressure is shared across all fingers reducing fatigue and limiting finger split. The wrist closure is secure and prevents the skinning of your forearms. The puck quality is very good with a full session doing little to scratch the level surface of the pucks. Rotation is possible and the Velcro can be used to replace pucks as needed. The pucks slide smoothly with little flaking they seem to be harder than average UHMW but do not seem any denser on close examination. The gloves can be a bit overwhelming with the heat generated building up in the glove. The slides they lay out are strong and consistent with protection at the focal point.

Conclusion

Beast gloves, possibly the best gloves to outfit yourself with if you are learning to slide. Plenty of surface area to slide with and bomb proof gauntlets help to create a killer training glove. Very thick leather secures your hands and protects you from anything that can get thrown at you. The gloves themselves can get quite warm and you will find yourself taking them off often on hot days, now if you like sliding or even just skating in winter then these are a solid choice. The pucks stand up to a great deal of damage and the gloves themselves back it all up. With the ability to wear wrist guards as well you can double your protection and still be comfortable. If you are a smaller rider you may be overwhelmed by the gloves but for the bigger guys these gloves are almost made to order with one of my testers weighing in at over 6’6” and 320 he went for these gloves every testing session, playfully slapping my helmet as he would ride by. When his gargantuan mitts would get swung at me head I knew why these gloves were called “Bear Paws”
