The First Annual Seattle Dragonfly Jam took place at beautiful Alki Beach, West Seattle on Sunday, August 6. We had perfect 80 degree weather for the event and, as luck would have it, we had the Blue Angels air show to keep us entertained since we just happened to pick that weekend for the Jam! The event was sponsored by Snowboard Connection, a Seattle snow and skate retailer, Insect Skateboards, and FaceFirst Entertainment.
There were free hot dogs, cold drinks, frisbee, good tunes, and plenty of tricked-out skateboards to play with. People who had never ridden a skateboard at all selected one to try and went for spins around the loop path with big smiles on their faces. Fathers pushed their kids around on boards. Rollerbladers shucked their inlines for trucks. Lots of seasoned riders enjoyed the wide variety of decks, wheels and trucks to experiment with, and everybody began busting tricks and slides to the cheers of those taking in the scene.

Snowboard Connection brought along a rack of longboards, and Steve Hopper of Insect also had a bunch of his hot new decks to try out. Steve had redesigned the graphics for his line. He eliminated all the color choices, and expanded the logo to include the name and technical specifications for the board you're riding. The wood is too pretty to be covered with paint anyway. His Dragonfly, Big Bug, and City Bomber boards got constant use and attention throughout the day.
It was a really easygoing day to just hang out, meet some new skateboarding friends, and check out the latest technology and art in the skate world. We'll definitely be doing this again next year!
Special Thanks to Adam Gerken of Snowboard Connection, Steve Hopper of Insect Skateboards and everyone of the Dragonfly Crew that showed up to set up, tear down, and clean up! You guys are alright!
Enjoy the rest of the summer! |
