PARK[ing] Day with

the California Bonzing Company

The annual tradition of transforming parking spots into skate spots for a good cause continues as California Bonzing Co. and the SF Skateboarding Assoc. team up for PARK[ing] Day 2009

San Francisco, CA: On September 18th, 2009, California Bonzing Co. and the San Francisco Skateboarding Assc. willl team up for the annual PARK[ing] Day celebration.  This event is available to anyone, offering free skateboard ramps, mini pipe, and rails, as well as free food.  The event, being held from noon to 5pm at the Civic Center, is being hosted to support the building of more San Francisco skate parks.  This worldwide event is made up of artists, activists, and citizens, who collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces; temporary public parks.

Around the year 2000, steel nob “skate stoppers” were affixed to most ledges, handrails and other surfaces preventing most areas from being skateable.  The need for more San Francisco skate parks is becoming more and more apparent.  Compared to Portlands 19 skate parks, for example, San Francisco has only 3 parks.  Says Austin Graziano of CA Bonzing Co., “In San Francisco it’s illegal to skate on side-walks and streets.  So we are asking, ‘Where are boarders supposed to skate?  This day is our chance to support this great and much needed cause.’

The California Bonzing Co., a San Francisco based skateboard company made up of craftsman and artists, believes your own individual style is what defines you and makes you who you are. Bonzing is taking your style to the extreme and to Bonz is to explore your own individual style.  This alone is their constant inspiration.

The S.F.S.A. seeks to be an advocate for San Francisco skateboarders, through organized representation and community action. The S.F.S.A. wants to improve the public's perception of skateboarders through education, information distribution, and community outreach, all with a focus on the creation of public skateboard parks for the youth of their great city.
