Paskapoo Raffle Winners

The Save the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo Raffle was launched after the Danger Bay race in May, 2008.

While the 2007 Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo was a huge success, it left the Speedboard Longboard Association of Calgary (SLAC)—a Not For Profit Society—deep in a crippling debt. That debt prevented the running of the event in 2008. This did not sit well with many who were seriously stoked on it from the previous years.

Quin, a local Calgary rider and huge supporter of our community, and his partner, had an idea for a raffle to save the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo on the drive back to Calgary following the Danger Bay race. The SLAC board of directors approved and ultimately took Quin's idea and ran with it—taking it to an international level.

"The Save the Paskapoo Raffle" began by reaching out to industry people that have played a positive role in SLAC in the past like Michael Brooke of Concrete Wave Magazine, Bricin from CoastLongboarding and Malakai from Silverfish.

6-months after Quin's idea and Ross Barodoy's smooth phone calls to as many manufactures as he could get in contact with, SLAC had $10,000 in prizes and over $14,000 dollars raised towards its debt left over from the 2007 Paskapoo race.

The Speedboard and Longboard Association of Calgary would like to thank all the people that have helped out in our community over the years—from the riders that attended Paskapoo in 2006 and 2007, all the communities across the globe that got involved with greenskate.org this year, to Cliff Coleman for volunteering at our Slide clinic this month and to all our sponsors in the past. Heartfelt thanks go out to the companies that donated the prizes for this very successful raffle—without them this could not have happened.

We'd also like to thank all of you who entered the raffle.

The Oct. 31st draw was amazing. We had a huge party and many people from the area that had purchased tickets were in attendance. I am glad we did the draw early on in the evening because the keg of beer at the party was enough to make any scrutinizer unscrupulous. We have recorded below the drawing of the tickets packages 1-9—you can watch the video and laugh and try and listen for your name.

The winners of the 9 raffled packages are as follows:

EASY RIDER (warren) package 1

Nick Poole package 2

Rogue Race package 3

Nick Poole package 4

Erik Ware package 5

Tony Palagyi package 6

EASY RIDER (warren) package 7

EASY RIDER (warren) package 8

EASY RIDER (warren) package 9

We thank all that participated in this Raffle. SLAC now has the ability to shift our energies from raising funds to deal with our debt to the organization of the 2009 Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo which we know our international family loved so much.

Thank you. You all rock!
