Fresh in from Juggy himself, we've got news from the Downhillbillies about the World Championships, later this month.  With nearly 120 racers confirmed (pay up, the rest of ya!), it's going to be fast racing on some excellent hills!  Check these out...

Billy Goat Gruff Dares you to hit it.

It's two weeks until the 2007 Worlds, and you've still got time to register to race, or just set your plans to come down and soak up the stoke and excitement that only the infamous Downhillbillies can bring!  That's the Giant Slalom hill right there, and it's even steeper than it may look.  Come down to North Carolina to rip hills like this one with over 100 of your new closest friends!  Slalom racing is about to receive a new catch phrase for fast:  "Blue Gill Road".  We had a chance to catch up with the Hammerhead, Marion Karr and his description of the GS hill went like this:  "(y)'all just won't believe this hill!  It starts off fairly mild just below the start ramp --skaters will probably pump the first five or six cones to get speed until they're just past where you see that goat in our picture.  Then, it just turns down!  It's so steep, you can't even see the skater until the finish line if you're standing where the photographer is in our photo!"  Marion measured the slope of the hill at 13%, and says it's got brand new pavement on the lower part that enhances speed all the way through the finish line.  There's more...

"We've been setting a few courses out there to figure out what kind of layout will be the best for the Worlds," continued the Downhillbillie.  "We aren't running practices on the exact course to be used later this month, just to keep things fairn, but we've turned some pretty fast times with the same number of cones."  From a standing start, the numbers imposed on the photo average out to 31mph, but Marion thinks he's nearly at 40mph as he comes over where the finish line will be.  "It's an adrenalin rush!" he says.

That's not all, the Hybrid course is about 9% slope, and you can see a portion of it here, too.  (The top of the course is obscured by the rise of the road inthe photo below.)  The pavement quality is excellent, and this course is very near the downtown location for the Tight Slalom (which we don't have a photo for).
