Slalom Week 2005 was just that…a week long marathon of many different slalom events. It kicked off on Monday night, September 12th with a welcome party for the arriving racers. On Tuesday morning we held a half-mile long cross country push race at a city park in Morro Bay. The winner was Maurus Strobel of Switzerland. That afternoon we ran a park slalom at the newly opened Los Osos skate park. The super fun course was set by Hackett and Olson. Jason Mitchell from Boulder, Colorado threw down the fastest time and walked off with $300.

Wednesday morning, the action moved to Turri Road, an old farm road that lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by towering granite peaks between Morro Bay and Los Osos. The open-class Super G led off, taking first in the Men’s division was Vincent Berruchon of France. In the Women’s class, San Diego’s speed queen Lynn Kramer rolled to victory. In the Junior Men’s race, East Coast ripper Adam Schwippert was the fastest. In the Pro division, Kenny Mollica was looking like the man to beat until Jason Mitchell set the fastest time of the day on his last run, garnering first place honors and a cool $1,000 from Radikal Trucks. Speeds were in the 30-35mph range.

On Thursday and Friday, the racing moved inland to Paso Robles for Slalom and Tight Slalom qualifying. The setting was Barney Schwartz Park, a city park that was ideally suited for the qualifying, a great hill, restrooms, lawn, shade and perfect weather.

Saturday morning we invaded Morro Bay for the fifth year in a row. The Slalom finals were held on Pacific Street. When the racers were in the gates, their view was of the course heading down toward the blue Pacific Ocean. Numerous classes of racing were held in the slalom, below are the winners of each class.
