SKATES ON THE TRACK:
INTERLAGOS RACEWAYS
HOSTS 3o GRAND PRIX
BRASIL DE SKATE SLALOM On July 9th, 1932, some troops from the state of São Paulo were supported by the people on a rebellion against many restrictions made by the federal dictatorship, and started an armed revolution in order to defend their rights and their freedom of choice. 77 years later, another revolution will take place in São Paulo - this time, on urethane wheels. On the next July 9th, skateboards replace the powerful Formula -1 engines in Interlagos raceways for the 3o Grand Prix Brasil de Skate Slalom. 50 competitors from various regions in Brazil will join the event, starring the current South American slalom champion, Kako Max, the 4-times downhill slide world champion, Sérgio Yuppie, and the Pan-American speed downhill champion and "the fastest skateboarder on Earth" according to Guinness Book of Records, Douglas Dalua.
The competition itself is the 4th event of 2009's Brazilian skate slalom circuit and will add points for the national rankings. "This is the main event in Brazilian slalom and adds points for those who seek the "Bolsa Atleta", an incentive program sponsored by the Ministry of Sports", says Edson Scander, sports director of the CBSk (Confederação Brasileira de Skate). The circuit will start just outside the boxes area, will be around a quarter-mile long and will have around 50 cones to be burned... A very high competition level is expected, and among riders are Marcio Benevides, Caco Ratos, José Carlos Birinha, Juliano Lilika, Ricardo Mikima, Thiago Gardenal, Bruno Nobru and Adolfo Kaveira, besides Willians Indio and Bruno Brown - these two being the minds behind the whole organization of the event. Interlagos raceways lane is ideal for this kind of competition, as the smoothness & grip on the pavement present the perfect conditions for the curves and hard angles performed by the skaters. The mixture of asphalt and grounded tyres provide a different texture from the usual street - not to mention that a ride in Interlagos is history itself, to be passed on to your grandchildren! The event will provide all safety structure, including mobile ICU and specialized staff on both medical and public assistance, basides a photo-cell device to be used for the competition timing. The entrance is free and it's a must-go event to whoever is around São Paulo, so take your coats, gloves and beanies out of the drawer and join this unique event in Brazil. 3º Grand Prix Brasil de Skate SlalomDate: July 9th, 2009 Location: Autódromo de Interlagos – Av.
