In the first three weeks of December, local and international gravity riders will converge into Cape Town, South Africa for the three race series hosted by South Africa
Next in the series is "Hot Heels Africa". The event will be run in the Kogelberg Biosphere Nature Reserve, about 80km outside of Cape Town. The course is a 1.9 km road that cuts right through the nature reserve and features a fast top section with a hard-braking left-hander into a long, "drafting straight" past the dam, then into a braking right-hander and a sweeping left-hander and finally to a straight drafting finish. Top speeds for standup will be in the 70km/h plus range and streetluge are in the 90 km/h range. This will be the last in the IGSA World Cup events, adding points and importance to the race for world rankings.
Last in the series will be the "Plettenberg Bay Gravity Challenge". Plettenberg Bay is situated along the beautiful garden route on the east coast of South Africa. This is a unique event, incorporating two categories of racing. In the first half of the day, there will be the downhill event where standup and streetluge will be competing for the R50 000 prize, split between the first four competitors of standup and streetluge. The course is 1 km long and is steep and fast. Standup riders will reach speeds above 90km/h and streetluge in the 100km/h plus range. The other half of the day will be the uphill event where motorcars race back up the same course. As the story goes, last year it was only intended to havethe uphill motorcar event but SAGRA got involved and threw in the downhill event. With about 8,500 spectators and great photagraphy of the downhill racing from last year, the organizers decided once again to offer free accommodation, free entry and a R50 000 prize for the standup and streetluge racers, whereas the motorcar guys have to pay to race and, well, who cares where they stay?
All in all this is going to be a sick 3 weeks of racing, partying and a great way to end 2005!
