If you're the do-it-yourself type, but don't have experience making skateboards, Roarockit offers a great place to start. I spent a couple hours assembling a Roarockit board and filmed the process. I'm generally not a great handyman and don't have any experience making boards from scratch, but I found this kit fun and fairly simple to build. Most of the explanation is in the video. Click read more to download and watch part one.
Download the video (22mb Quicktime, 5:39) One thing I really like about the Roarockit kit is that once you're done, you still have the tools to build another board. They offer refills of glue and wood for this purpose. After building the board from the kit, I feel fairly confident that if I spent some time looking for the right stuff, I could probably build another board making my own Styrofoam mold and cutting my own wood. The vacuum bag that comes with it seems pretty sturdy and would probably go through at least a dozen or so (I'm guessing) of these projects before needing to be replaced.
