Connection to Flight:  On the bottom of the Vanguard there’s a really beautiful graphic of a bird in flight.  At the beginning or this vid, a hawk silhouette flies in the world of the Vanguard and a feather floats down in front of the board as the hawk fades away.  This Vanguard graphic is very much alive.  The hawk appears right next to me and I “become” a hawk as I carve my path through the trees.  We carry this theme of flight throughout the whole video. 

Connection to Freedom:  One thing that I enjoy about longboarding is just being outside and clearing my head.  Towards the middle of the video, I rest and just lie out on my Vanguard and close my eyes and just take in the day.  Surrounded by trees and near water, my mind drifts like a hawk soaring freely in the sky.

Thanks!  ‘Fly Loaded’ was already filmed and edited by the time I started to develop music to support it. I have been away from music for 10 years and this is my first attempt at writing music without a group. This was an iterative process that started with a guitar idea that my sweetheart, Jordana, helped me with. From that point on, things started to fall into place. I wanted an upbeat drumbeat and a strong driving bass line to be the foundation.  The piano line soon followed on one sleepy, rainy Sunday.  This project was my first effort working creatively with the Adam-Squared crew.  Editing and tweaking parts happened during many late night sessions after work and school.  I think the piece supports the vibe that the Adams had intended when setting out to film.
