[GFH has come a long way from their earliest roots of seal skin boards. With their position as a big boy tugging on capes they were kind enough to toss us a bone with a PR about one of their newest boards, its origin and a deeper look at the deck.]

It has been a while since GFH Boards has sent in a board to the good people of the Fish, but we have been busy with fillings for carbon credits and pushing the bio fuel GFH ghetto rig around town. But we figured it was about time to give everyone a little taste of a new direction we are taking with GFH Boards.

We recently cut the Ringer and Recluse out of our line and decided that we needed to fill in that size gap. Now unlike some other guys out there that say everyone rips off their designs, we will tell you exactly where we got the idea. First I want it to be known that we invented water and religion so….

This board came straight from Jay Adams and was given to one of our buddies Vince Felix. It is based off the old Taper Kick and we thought it would make for a great addition. Several years ago, Vince got wind that Sims had found a whole pallet of old taper kick boards in their warehouse and were selling them for $20. Some were printed and some were not. Some were even samples. Back in the 70’s Vince was a little man skating around with the old Dog Town guys and when he told us the stories about this board and how he got his hands on the decks, we knew we would have to resurrect it. Now clearly we put our own flair on the board and called it the Full Nelson to back up CJ Nelson and his desire to bring back all the goodness of this deck.

We have gone through several versions of this board and with a few modifications you realize what it can do. At first start, this board had Tracker 129 Darts, but after a few runs CJ would not ride the board unless it had the GFH 3” trucks on it. We switched around his bushings and put some Khiro White barrels on the bottom and the GFH/Khiro lime green tops. The board is sick and you can easily pump it up a hill.

We then brought the board with us over to the Encinitas YMCA Skate Park and took it for a spin on their pool. We started to pass it around to kids skating and within a matter of minutes, a kid that felt awkward on the board at first, was hitting tiles on a skate that was barely wider than 7” and 36” in length. The Encinitas Y is known for grooming some of the best young skaters in the country and there were kids waiting to take a turn. Some had never even ridden a longboard before, but they were hooked.

The Full Nelson will be available with Tracker 129 Darts, but we will suggest the GFH Boards 3” mini trucks. The board will come standard with the GFH Fatties and will be a great all around board perfect for carving, pools and some sidewalk surfing.
