There is a new skateboard company out of Thousand Oaks, CA, owned by John and Kathleen Lukes. Grand Prix Skateboards (GPS) is a creation inspired by John’s passion for auto racing and his knowledge as an aerospace engineer. More than 20 years ago, John designed CAN AM and formula racing type skateboards that remain under his 3 patents and enjoyed racing his Formula Ford and Super V while watching the evolution of skateboarding. Grand Prix Skateboards is synonymous with the Hi-Tech Formula 1 business; where the best innovative concepts originate. On the cutting edge of skateboard technology, the goal of GPS is to apply innovative automotive racing concepts to the sport of skateboarding, bringing technical sophistication and new thrills in the level of competition.
At the ASR Trade Show in September 2006, John and Kathleen were extremely fortunate to attract the attention of Rick Wilson, who is well known as an innovator in the skateboard industry (Xtreme Wheelz) and luger. He instantly saw the potential of the GPS wheels and the innovative ideas. He joined GPS almost immediately, as the Sales and Marketing Manager. Rick is instrumental in all aspects of sharing the goal and delivering the innovative, Hi-Tech wheels. Our first product, G-FORCE wheels, have been through an extensive testing process managed by Rick, including testing during several street luge competitions. The G-FORCE urethane wheel is designed with a 2 piece, 3 bearing “rim style.” This unique hub/wheel design allows the rider to interchange wheel sizes around an interlocking rim. The G-FORCE wheel is a 75mm/78a wheel. The rims are available in a variety of colors; the wheels are available in black with yellow printing. Be sure and look for their next high performance wheel, the MAGNUM 88, due out this Spring.
