Tracker Trucks' FasTrack 180
The long-awaited project from the House of Balma is ready for retailers to order and sell before Christmas. It’s the latest “Randal-Killer” truck, the FasTrack, by Tracker Trucks. Take a look at these California-made beauties: 7” hangers, 50-degree pivot angles, an offset axle for “flipped hanger” utility and the largest OEM bushings of any cast aluminum longboard truck: the Stimulator III’s. Set for an MSRP around $50.00/set, they’ll be available at the more proactive retailers within 10 days, and even earlier to a lucky few.
The FasTrack 180: Look Closely for Details. The FasTracks were a design project by Larry Balma and Buddy Carr, after consultation with Loaded Longboards and Gravity Skateboards over design features and utility. The result is a truck with very traditional longboard angles, a six-hole baseplate and axles cast-in to hangers produced at Tracker’s California foundry. The Grade-8 kingpins are splined in place, and more than long enough to accommodate the big bushing and flat washers that come stock on the FasTracks. Cast in California, with six holes to please everyone. The FasTracks are the first of the Randal-Killers to feature an oversized bushing, and the “Stimulator III’s” are truly oversized -- a full 35mm wide at the base. The 15mm tall bushings are identical for top and bottom placement on the Trackers and will be available in three durometers. The 7” hangered, “180” trucks will all come with the orange, “mid-hardness” bushings you see here. In about a month, Tracker will release “150” width trucks, which may or may not utilize the “soft” bushings. All three bushings (soft, medium, hard) will be available next month for aftermarket sales. 50-degree pivot angle, 70mm axle height.
The new Trackers have some trick features to them. Of course, the first one you can see from about a mile away: the giant bushings. If you haven’t had a chance to ride home-built, JimZ’s or various prototype oversized bushings, you’re in for a great ride when you try trucks like this out: the return to center and stability are increased over like-duro’s in regular bushings (even dual barrel setups) and the spring rate is even more progressive. For lighter riders, this places a premium on soft durometers, and yet larger riders can lean into large bushings without bottoming out the trucks in hard turns. If you’re interested to learn what people think about how the FasTrack’s ride, check out the comments in our Trucks forum from skaters that rode a set we had for demo last week.
The next trick feature is hidden beneath the oversized bushings and here’s a first look at what it is: an inset collar in the bushing seat designed to accommodate standard bushings like the Tracker Superballs and Khiros. The "Standard Bushing Inset" is on both sides of the FasTrack hanger. With these inset collars, you can use a barrel or conical bushing of your choice without the bushing squirming around the large bushings seat. You can also simply flip the Stimulator 3’s: their 25mm width at the top match the size of “standard” bushings. Barrel bushings match up with the inset collar and the OEM flat washer. |
