In 2003, a group of skaters called the Castle Hill Mob reached a crisis point in their chosen discipline:  sliding.  They needed equipment they couldn't buy, so they got it together and made the stuff.  Faltown Skateboards was the result.  Brash, utilitarian and competent gear from skaters of the same ilk.   You may have seen some of their vids on the 'Fish --now check out the real deal:

After four years of action-packed skateboarding, one of the world's most  exciting skate brands released its first long-awaited movie on June 5th.

The Art of Going Sideways tells the story of how a group of like-minded British skaters found themselves developing the unusual but spectacular technique of sliding that had hardly changed since its creation in California in the 1970s.  Taking their name from one of their favourite skate haunts, the Castle Hill Mob found themselves sliding all over their native Cornwall, UK, and further around the world. Now they have staked their claim as some of the best downhill freestyle skateboarders the world has seen.

Using the undulating landscape of Cornwall as a blank canvas for their sliding, they have broken new ground in tricks and man oeuvres in the course of perfecting their art.

As well as achieving recognition from as far away as California’s Berkeley Hills – the ancestral home of the sport – their unique style has earned admiration from as far and wide as Reykjavik and Tokyo, with world slide champion Sergio Yuppie visiting the Castle Hill Mob from Brazil to pay his respects.  Evidence of the growing importance of sliding is evident the world over – competition prizes are increasing and sponsorship deals for riders are getting more lucrative. The biggest prize to date is $5000 at Paskapoo Downhill Jam, held at Canada’s Olympic Park. Award-winning Faltown rider Mark Short will be dispatched there in 2007 to show the world how things are done on Castle Hill.

Now, The Art of Going Sideways brings this unique brand of skateboarding out of the shadows and into the mainstream as it gathers more attention in the world's media.

The main feature showcases the development of the sport over the last four years and is interlaced with rider close-ups, it includes how-to sections in the slide school where the pros divulge their secrets. The DVD also contains the award-winning trailer, a stills gallery, coverage of the Castle Hill Mob on UK Extreme TV and music from the film.  “The movie is a skateboarding first,” explains partner in Faltown Skateboards and maker of the film Chris Humphris, “no other company has stepped up and shown this important side of skateboarding to this extent.

"Documentary in style, the film is not just a bunch of riders but five years in development of a niche sport. It's been a long time in the making, but The Art of Going Sideways has been worth every minute.  We strongly believe in sliding’s longevity because it's a great cross-over discipline for surfers and snowboarders everywhere who need something to do when the conditions for their other sport aren’t right.”
