By now, you know all about how amazing the Maryhill Festival of Speed is.You’ve read about it, seen the photos, dreamed about riding the incredible Maryhill Loops Road and heard about how the town of Goldendale, Washington hosts the athletes and event with good, old-fashioned hospitality. You might even be one of the lucky ones that made the trek, hit the course and raced the hill in the MFOS.Either way, you probably also know that things got out of hand this year at the Athletes’ Village, the Klickitat County Fairgrounds where the concerts and camping were.Vandalism, damage and a freakin’ giant mess put a black eye on the skateboard community, hurt and angered local families that supported us and earned us a “don’t come back y’all” from the Mayor.
So, whether you’re one of the skaters that was at the MFOS this year, or your just one that thought you’d like to get there next year, you know why this just plain sucks! We screwed up, not all of us, but members of our family.Longboarders across the world are asking how they can help make it right, and we’ve worked with the City of Goldendale, County of Klickitat and some skaters in the Pacific Northwest to develop ways you can help.We can help pay for the ruined feed-hay, the vandalized barns, the spraypainted bathrooms and more (read the forums if you need more), and we can show Goldendale that we’re not what a few of us might have made them think. Here’s what you can do:
After being hosted and treated like family by the people of Goldendale, Washington, some skaters at the MFOS repaid the courtesy with vandalism and worse. Find out how the City responded, and...
...about what you can do in response. Skaters will make amends for the mistakes in our family and you can be a part of it. Click the logo for the disgusting details.
On September 24th, the 'Fish will reach an auspicious moment: the five-year anniversary of our most prolific member's first login. By that time, the man of a thousand answers, the original crack-dealer of longboard stoke and the guy with his own 900-post thread will also likely have more than 20,000 posts under his belt. We're not talking about somebody with nothing better to do...er, well, we're talking about someone that may be the first person to really answer your first question on the 'fish. He may be the one that scores you the killer deal on trucks, and faces the hangers for you. He may be the one with the pithy response to questions he's answered a thousand times but that he's still got the stoke to give you a little and do his best to make your next skate session better. Five years of deals, five years of posting. Heck, we've had to create new "ranks" based on his posting levels, three times! If he's past 20k by the time you read this, he'll have earned the fourth in the series!
