Insect Skateboards Team Rider Jeremy Geier rides his Nanotech Firefly
@ The Shoog Showdown. Washougal, WA.
Insect Skateboards continues to push the state of the speedboard art right out of the stratosphere with the introduction of the world's first nanotube-enhanced carbon fiber longboards. Insect's founder and part-time mad scientist, Steve Hopper has always been passionate about the marriage of bleeding edge technology and longboarding, and after months of rigorous research, development, and plain old determination has succeeded in bringing another insanely revolutionary concept into reality.
As in all things racing, the holy grail of performance is to reduce mass, yet maintain an extremely strong structure or chassis that drivers can push to the limits of speed and maneuverability without fear of structural failure. By fusing sheets of carbon nanotube-enhanced carbon fiber to a featherweight honeycomb core, Insect has created a line of longboards that are simultaneously the lightest and strongest speedboards available, and that combination results in pure bliss to a competitive downhill skater.
"The old Spooky crashed and burned, the dark lords of Lush offered the ruined carcass up to the skate gods, the skies turned the colour of blood, Kurt Nischel retreated into his cave and the unholy task of resurrection began. Short, stiff, wide, stronge, the Spooky has been reborn! It will reap its vengance across the hills of the world, slaying sweepers and defacing hairpins, with the chaotic violence of the underworld Gods, and the stealthy precision of a vampire. The new Spooky will massacre any hill you can find, speeds in excess of 100kmh, the tightest corners on the most brutal mountain passes, tight super tech urban spots tremble and shrink in fear when Spooky draws near. Featuring new race tactical sharp rails.. Get one and scare yourself..."
Bombsquad Longboarding, located in Arlington, Texas, has developed a new product for longboarders that is designed to protect a board from crash damage and potentially ruining a board. The original idea for a “noseguard” came, as you can imagine, from a crash that wiped out a favorite board.
The initial idea was to come up with a way to protect the nose of a board from impact crash damage. After a few ideas were put together in the shop, a prototype noseguard was fabricated and we began using it on our longboards and it really worked on some very hard hits.
With a built in vert-lam tail and a mellow nose, the Ceviche takes the best aspects of Loaded's Fish, dices it up and dishes out something brand new. Similar in deck length to the Fish, but with a shorter wheelbase, the Ceviche can be ridden between the trucks for pumping or off the tail for an aggressive, surfy feel.
The tail is a bit softer than a traditional street deck tails, allowing for rebound and responsiveness. While the board can be ollied and lends itself to many standard street skating tricks, tech tricks are not it's primary intention. Loose and agile, it's time to explore the limits of your sidewalk and hill thrashing abilities.
The crew at Bustin Boards has released their latest model, the Strike, which features traditional Bustin contours packed into an ultra low, drop-through design. Their first drop-through model, the 38-inch deck is designed for multi-discipline performance riding and is one of the most versatile boards on the market. The Strike is unique because of its forward-cambered, concave drop-through design which gives it the rebound of a more flexible board, but the stability of a lower-style setup. The most camber exists in the front third of the board, creating a sweet spot with strong rebound for the optimal kick, push and coast. The signature Bustin shape also offers the advantage of increased truck wedging in both the front and rear for fluid maneuverability and greater response to the rider. In addition, the Strike offers a small tail and nose for manuals which have been thoroughly tested to withstand rider wear and tear-- unlike some other similar attempts across the industry. Staying with their commitment to greener design, the 8-ply layup is made with 100% sustainably-harvested maple from North America.
