Thank you verifying "sidewalk ettiquette" at your college. Also thank you for telling us who decides what the sidewalk rules are. If there is no "no skateboarding" signs, then you have no right to whine. Send a letter to the dean or the board if you want these so called banana boards gone.

I cannot stress this enough: they are called “sidewalks,” not “sideskates.”
This is not a hard concept to grasp. If you are forcing people off the sidewalk while riding something, you should not be on the sidewalk. These skateboarders are, after hipsters, hippies and terrorists, the bane of my existence. Look, if students can’t walk the three or four blocks to school who don’t suffer from a debilitating handicap, then they are just lazy. There is no need to skateboard around campus. It angers people like me and it is infuriating to have to move because some lazy student needs to wheel by on a skateboard that was popular in the 1970s..
Ok. Skateboards are faster than walking. Therefore it is difficult not to skateboard through large groups of people. If skateboards were as fast as walking than they would not be used, simple as that. Not a difficult concept to grasp. Skateboarding has been popular since the 50's you misinformed ass.

Pardon me. But longboarding has been around about as long as the skateboard and has remained popular until now. Sims made a "longboard" in the 60's, that style board was improved on and now the sport is just becoming more popular than it always has been. Now, people, before you go around trying to make a point, make sure you make sense and not make a complete ass out of your self

I am tempted to bring a bag of marbles to campus and accidently spill them when some skateboarder or bicycle terrorist come my way.
Perhaps SCSU’s respect and responsibility workshop could include proper skateboarding and bicycling manners on and around campus. One would think this would be common sense, but apparently it is not.
This guy is an idiot. First of all he thinks marbles will stop a bike, also he thinks he won't get his ass beat if he throws marbles in front of a skateboard. I dunno about you, but i would be preeeetty pissed off. Like, trucks to the face pissed off.

That may seem harsh, but I don’t care. If people can learn to skate on campus in a way that does not force me into the grass, then I may change my stance. Until then, something needs to change.
How dare you mispell gravy!
that being said, i am tempted to send him a link to this thread. And film his reaction.

A. If "skating rudely" should be punishable by expulsion, what is the penalty for rudeness in general, i.e. this article
B. I fvcking love gravy.
C. Who the fvck cares about your stance. The only stances I care about are regular and goofy.
D. If something "needs to change", how about your outlook?
F. The only good part of Back to the future 2 was the fact that flea was in it.
G. Hair
H. Mustache
I. "Banana" board?
J. I guarantee us "lazy" people have more fun and get more excercise in one day on our "banana boards" than you have in a month of smugly clickity clacking away on your keyboard.
K. Editing is "common sense" too, but you obviously don't much care for that either.

Re: another candidate for douchebag of the year...
I was flipping through an issue of the Skateboard Magazine and found that most the skaters in that mag come off as douche bags.
Here is a paraphrased sample of the douchebagism found in that article.
A 13 year old wrote: Dear pro skaters *Insert Name*, I'm 13 but not a bad skater. My mom limits the time I have to go out and skate. I was just wondering, did your mom limit your skate time too?
Pro skater *Insert Name*: #### your mom. Don't let that bitch boss you around. When I was 13, I didn't have nobody telling me what to do. Don't listen and just skate anyway dude!
Is it me or does that come off as inappropriately influential?

Well its that exact thing that gives people a negative stereotype of skaters. When the outside world sees these couple of d!ckholes who are all against authority and society well they assume that all skaters are that way. Especially mainstream skating has become a rebel against the rules. While I dont like all rules in the world you gotta respect some.

Well put. Agreed 100%
That's why we get shit from rent-a-cops...
I got flak from one while I was skating past bicycle parking poles with bikes chained to them. Why are bikes allowed but not skateboards? Because some punks ruined it for all of us. I have never skated at a garage, malls, or giant shopping plazas in which I haven't been hassled; even if the parking lot is empty.

Nor have I. When I come up to a pedestrian I slow down and prepare to get off my board. If I come up behind someone and cannot go around, and/or they are unaware that I am there, I will get off and politely walk past them, then hop back on and skate away happily. More often than not, if the person notices I am there they will step to the side and motion me through politely, at which I wave and say thanks

I've been forced off sidewalks, I've been physically and verbally assaulted for skating on sidewalks. The time it got slightly physical, the kid ran into me then yelled at me and shoved me for "being in his way" when I made an effort to get out of his way. That was just a stupid kid looking for trouble, trying to make his balls drop by intimidating someone else.
Making a slight effort to be polite when skating puts that little seed in peoples mind that not all skaters are bad. In fact, the police here don't think twice about longboarders anymore, since they haven't caused any trouble. A small and wave to people goes a long way. There is a small shopping centre I skate through almost daily, and I eat pizza there quite often, and over time as I've been going through the people have become less hostile purely because I have not bothered them, and I made an effort to mind my own business beyond a small greeting
