Apple iPhone App ...need your ideas for contest...

The CW iPhone Application is almost ready to go live.
It will have some cool things going into the app:

1. discounts from online shops
2. photo and artist portfolios (updated weekly)
3. additional photos from stories we couldn't fit into the mag
4. special secret stuff that I will send out ONLY to those who have the application

We aim to have to some fun with this application.

I'd like to hit 20,000+ downloads...and wondered if you had any ideas in ways to promote it?

I have one cool idea...if I hit 20,000 downloads, I'd like to giveaway $10,000 worth of skateboard gear. Basically a complete a week...

Would love your thoughts...

Definitely some reference guides such as a browse-able buyers guide.

*EDIT*

Other ideas:

* reference table for bushings with color codes and duros for the different brands out there.
* distance, speed and slope calculator
* spot geotagging
* trick tips

errr...sorry man first I thought you were asking for ideas for features. anyway here are a couple

Also some like longboard video gallery perhaps? Showcasing some videos from CW evolutions, thatd be cool
But i like the complete idea, its quite cool

Facebook it, advertise around the web. Just release it already, I'm dying to put a longboarding app on my phone. Maybe even do a downhill skateboarding game for the iPhone. I would play that

Utilize the multi-touch of the iPhone. Tap one finger down to put a hand down, 2 fingers for 2 handed slides, and have them do a specific motion for a different type of slide. Also make them get speed wobbles

too bad i have Verizon. the iPhone contract with AT&T needs to hurry up and run out.

AT&T service sucks balls where i live. no point to getting it while i still live here

Sounds like a great app. GPS based speed/distance logging would most likely be popular.

I guess a good question here is: How many of us even have iPhones ? I guess you could load it onto an iPod Touch too, which might have more owners in the longboard community.

Sorry but I don't ever plan to own an iPhone unless you can use them with other providers and as for an iPod Touch, I won't own one till they get battery consumption down. Great products overall though. I wouldn't mind an iPod Touch if I could get one cheap.

I would get a cell with Droid on it from another provider before I would sign onto an AT&T contract for an iPhone.

the app right now has photos and artist profiles
we'll have some other cool things...for right now however, it's not a game..
don't have the $$$ for that!

Hide clues to a puzzle within the app content every time you update it. First (insert number) people to send in the correct answer get some free stuff.

Unrelated to what you're looking for, but I think it would be schweet for actual subscribers to be able to view the magazine right there on the phone. Magazine subscriptions generally have some kind of unique number or something, right? so just enter your number, and get access to a digital version of the latest issue. Would be super-cool if you could do it as an actual page-turning animated thing... I'd be surprised if there wasn't an easy way to do that, seems like the type of programming that would be available open-source.

How about you create a street team for CW. We can go out with flyers that you make up and we can print out and hand out to other skaters. Maybe we can put the flyers in some skate shops as well as hand them out at events.

I love the bushings reference chart idea.
As an aside, charts/reference guides for basic set-ups like DH, LDP, and casual cruising.

I like the 'geotagging' idea as well.
Since we're working with the GPS, what about a speedo that records and charts basic info.

Best way to advertise?

I'd guess flyers in skate shops would be the least expensive, most direct to the target audience approach.
