I just picked up this story from the wire...
Be loyal, kind and don't steal Movies

LOS ANGELES - A Boy Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, etc., etc. He is also respectful of copyrights. Boy Scouts in the Los Angeles area will now be able to earn an activity patch for learning about the evils of downloading pirated movies and music.
The patch shows a film reel, a music CD and the international copyright symbol, a "C" enclosed in a circle.
The movie industry has developed the curriculum.
"Working with the Boy Scouts of Los Angeles, we have a real opportunity to educate a new generation about how movies are made, why they are valuable, and hopefully change attitudes about intellectual property theft," Dan Glickman, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America, said in a statement Friday.
Scouts will be instructed in the basics of copyright law and learn how to identify five types of copyrighted works and three ways copyrighted materials may be stolen.
Scouts also must choose one activity from a list that includes visiting a movie studio to see how many people can be harmed by film piracy. They also can create public service announcements urging others not to steal movies or music.
Many of the Scouts in the Los Angeles area come from families whose members are somehow connected to the region's sprawling entertainment industry, said Victor Zuniga, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Area Council.
The program is being introduced to the 52,000 Scouts in the Los Angeles area, with plans to offer it to other California councils early next year. The program will reach Scouts ages 6 to 21.
When I was a kid Boy Scouts were all about camping, hiking, survival skills, etc. I was so disappointed when I had two daughters. Of course they got into Girl Scouting and my wife was a troupe leader. We had a big Chevy Suburban pefect for hauling lotsa little girls and their stuff around, so I became the troupe's driver. In order to be covered by the Girl Scouts of America insurance, I had to become ... get ready ... a Girl Scout. Yessir. I was once a card-carrying Girl Scout.
I think every man should have to go to Girl Scout camp once. There was this state-wide campout gathering they held at the state fair grounds. My wife's troupe went and since I was the driver, I went too. There were at least a thousand girls and their female troupe leaders there. Lemme tell ya, it's weird to experience sexual harrassment. For example, I would be carrying our two 5 gallon water cans to the water station to get 'em filled, and women troupe leaders would be whistling at me and saying stuff like "Woo-wee! Where can I get me a man like that to haul my water?"
The morning after the first night I wandered over to the bathrooms to take a leak. I walked into the MENS bathroom to find it entirely populated by girls. I'm like, "No. That's OK. don't get up. I'll come back later."

This sounds like every movie is available on the internet next year..Really, how dumb could they be...

Cubs have an 'individual specialty' badge. My son, Jared, is defining the requirements for a skateboard badge. It will probably be a hybrid of the snowboard and bicycle badges with aspects of care & maintenance, safety, and basic skills.
P.S. Jared took 4th place in a photo contest for Scouts Canada's "Leader Magazine for a tweaked-out melon grab at Legacy skatepark. 1st place went to a bunch of kids studying a worm.
--1) I am once again involved with Scouts, having joined my son as a Tiger Cub, last night. 2006 Space Derby Chair, already, too.
--2) Slalom Merit Badge pending. All we have to do is draw up the criteria, award a few under the existing framework and submit. Sure thing by like 2009... heh heh!!
Silverfish tie-in: Malakai will now wear a scout kerchief when he skates. Not the bandana he uses to knock off liquor stores, either, but a real kercheif.
