Nike, broadening the market of skate line.

they're not underpriveledged, they're ####### dirt poor. they live in poverty like you obviously can't even imagine. underpriveledged is not having money to buy excess skate ####, not having your parents money to blow on girls and your BMW. underpriveledged? is having enough food to eat a privelage? or a right? and what gives you the right to support their exploitation?

I'd like to see them.
I like the idea of Nike 6.0, I don't see corporate sponsorship as bad its not like theyre telling people what tricks to do or what to eat, they just provide the money and product.
The sweatshops are another issue, I believe labor laws have come a long way in china which is the country that has the most people who have overcome poverty. Anyway, supporting local businesses is cool and all but dont bash on corporations for supporting athletes.

the thing about Nike that sticks out in my mind is how much of a desired shoe they were in the late 70's and 80's. Enough to make it into the drawing that was on the cover of the very first Thrasher Magazine. they weren't drawn as a joke. they were drawn as a symbol of what readers/skaters thought would best describe thrasher mag values (at the time).

They weren't a skate shoe, In other words A magazine did not tell you to buy them, like now. they were a shoe of choice, that got there becasue they worked. No media marketing, the shoe did its own marketing.

Well I have read good things about the company. I read Lance Armstrong's first book a few years and he mentioned how when he was on his death bed and his cycling team canceled his contract just in time to make him lose his insurance, and all his sponsors bailed on him Nike sent him lots of support and said they would stick with him.

But I am still not sure about how I feel about skateboarding being so mainstream anyhow. I love the fact that there are skateparks everywhere. Would have killed for it in the 80s, and I remember how everyone was drinking Mountain Dew after a couple of TV commercials. But still.
