1. After the first time of going longboarding down hills, I used a friends helmet and just thought of what damage I could do to myself if I fell going 35-40 mph on this board. So I got a helmet. The next week I fell doing a good 45.
2. I have 2 Protecs, an old that doesn't fit me anymore so I loan it out when we go and then another that I use for hills and parks.
3. Because it's not cool to be safe and wear safety gear. It's rediculous how many kids don't wear helmets. My friend just finished this video of us longboarding and this one kid with us has a major spill into a cactus. Out of the five of them, zero had on a helmet. I think it's rediculous how being safe is looked as uncool by so many.

When I first started I did'nt, till my first major spill.
Now I wear a helmet knee & elbo pads along with slide gloves. When I get ready to make a run I put everything on, at my age and condition I can't afford not to.
Protec helmets, Pro Design pads, homemade gloves

i think what convinced me was a fall where i just barely hit my head. not har enough to hurt me more of a tap but that made me think of what could have happened. and now i feel naked if i dont have a helmet on.
the helmet i got was based on which one looked the best and cost the least. the knee pads were the cheapest. at this point i dont need hard core kneepads only something that will handle the ocasional fall. my leathers i got anyway for motorcycle track days. funny thing is that i havent been to a trackday yet. at this point they wouldnt pass inspection at a track. slide gloves are some homedepot specials. again some thing cheap.
i think that people dont wear protective gear because of the mainstream attitude that its not cool or fashionable. similar to people who ride motorcycles without helmets(idiots...) i cant understand not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle. im probably off but i think your twice as likely to die in a crash without a helmet as with one.

I don't wear safety gears. But I'm buying a helmet and some slide gloves this summer.
But to be honest...I don't feel comfortable with a helmet on my head. I just don't. So don't ask me...
