For me, it's mainly performance. I'm not rich--far from it--but I have enough money to buy exactly what I want now and then. So if someone makes a superior wheel, truck, deck, bearing, precision spacers (cough, cough ), etc., then I am willing to pay for it. Beyond that, I try to look for a certain level of integrity. Example: Comet skateboards tries to be environmentally responsible in all their materials and processes.

My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.
having the nerve to continue carrying products that work well. several companies have lost my respect by following trends. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Keep putting out quality products. keep pushing the innovation. Putting work and money back into skateboarding to keep it going and make it better like sponsoring contests and helping with getting skateparks or fighting anti-skate laws. Just for starters.
