Glomming on to something old and established, and saying they are the originals. Claiming legitimacy where they are no different than anyone else. Copycatters, essentially.

My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.
Personally, I couldn't care less whether a company makes "popsicle sticks," especially since that's what I ride in pools and parks (although mine is 9" wide). If a company makes other boards you DO like, I don't see how adding popsicle sticks suddenly makes your preferred board worse. But maybe I'm missing something there.
A company will lose my business if it produces crappy products that don't work and/or fails to respond courteously to inquiries or complaints. And if they base their whole identity or ad campaign on something I consider personally offensive or demeaning (two in particular immediately come to mind), they'll never get it in the first place.
And though I didn't think of it initially myself, I tend to agree with rawls's point as well.
