This is such a pathetic story...but typical...thank the Lord i got out...
anyone else wanna share...
To follow up on my recent leg injury.
He controls the Mid-Atlantic region for Outback Steakhouse, he is also the person that hand selected me as a Proprietor for Outback about 4 months ago. I had about 3 weeks of training left, then I kick in 25K and I get an Outback.
That's the preface.
Here's the convo:
He goes through the formality of asking what my diagnosis is (I already called his secretary and informed her Monday am). I tell him it's better than expected and I'm in a boot, have to see the doc in 2 weeks, could resume moderate activity after then. Blah, blah...
He then says, "I hear you did this skateboarding". Here we go...I knew this would happen.
I go on to explain that I mentioned during the interview process when he asked me about what activities I did, that I surf & skate regularly. I also told him that's why I requested off the weekend, because of the Jam. I told him that most of the people I skate run the gamut from teens to 50's. He asked if I was "hot-dogging or just skateboarding" HUH??????
I go on to describe the setting, precautions, equipment I use. Then it gets hairy.....He tells me he is wondering if he made a wrong decision in selecting someone for a "high-profile position" that would jeopardize the state of the business by possibly being out of the restaurant for 2, 4 , 6 weeks.
He basically asked me if I'll ever skate again, but in a politically correct kind of way.
I told him that my family, health & career are the most important things in my life. I won't do anything to jeopardize them again.
I never said I wouldn't skate again.
He goes on to say, that this puts "a hold on his plans" and I assure him I will rehab quickly.
I guess if it would've happened by a stray golf ball or golf club, it would've been acceptable.
I guess I just need to vent, 3 days in the house and I'm already getting batty.

hell, taking a shower is as dangerous as longboarding! driving a car on the freeway is prolly MORE dangerous. but people look really disgusted when you tell 'em you got hurt skateboarding. heck, i'll not shower or drive on the freeway if i get to longboard everywhere...other people might not appreciate it, but i'll find it funny

I could definitely see that happening, and it's happened to me before actually. I got fired from a landscaping job because of an ankle injury that prevented me from squeezing into a work boot for a week. of course they didn't "fire" me though, oh no no, that would have been against the rules....they "let me go" because of "lack of work" apparently.......in the middle of the busiest time of year, yeah, i buy that.

Where I work, they're all aware of my longboarding habits. I'm made fun of mercilessly, but I do suppose I deserve it after breaking my wrist 3 efffing times. They'd never consider firing me because of it though. But I guess it's just normal for more.. eccentric/atypical personalities to be working where I work.
That really sucks for this guy though. This is why I hate corporate America, among other things.
