Tampa, Florida - A skateboarder was shot while skateboarding near Belle Witter Elementary School in the area of North 22nd Street and East 109th Avenue in Tampa late Tuesday night.
According to Tampa Police, the 21-year-old man is a victim of an attempted armed robbery. They say just before midnight, he was approached by two black men who demanded money. When he didn't have any to give, they shot him and ran away.
The skateboarder went to the school campus to call for help from his cell phone. Tampa Fire and Rescue responded. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he had surgery. He was last listed in critical but stable condition. There were no witnesses.
thats horrible. my dad was once mugged while in running shorts and no shirt. who has money on them in those clothes? i dont ever carry a wallet with me when i'm skating. just a drivers license and a credit card.

What the hell is the sense of shooting someone if you have nothing to gain from the situation?

And yet so many laugh and make snide remarks about Keith Hollien.
Yeah I ride with him out in Clermont on Saturdays, for those not in the know. He's a pro slalomer dubbed 'The Machine' who packs a piece in his front pocket anytime he rides.
He says his logic behind it is that when he's racing the guy who he's up against isn't worried about winning the race, he's worried cause the guy he's racing has a gun shaped bulge in his front pocket and NRA stickers all over his board.
Guess in some instances (like the one mentioned here) it doesn't hurt to have a back up plan. But have we really come to the time in age where we have to skate with a piece? Not me brother, not me.
still sad that sorta stuff goes on....the worst i've heard of in australia was a guy getting knifed for his board...that was years ago.
