Remember guys stage dads are NOT to be confused with supportive dads.

My dad helped me buy my first board over 1 year ago, he payed for half of my krown board from ebay..... ever since then to now i haven't said one word (besides the occasional chit-chat/ fall scar wound) about long boarding. Recently i mentioned i was starting to hit 50+ speeds and he finally got concerned/interested how i could do it. He helped me purchase my biggest investment to date, my leathers. My dad has not skated once in his life, but he is still amazed/interested about the whole subject.

Recently i decided to start racing, and my dad said he would come watch/help clean up/ video.... etc. He said he didn't want to offer because he would "cramp my style" but i invited him because hes a good guy.

Just wanted to make sure everyone sees this biiiiig difference between supportive and obsessive.

Ryan (age 16... twice age 8 but still...)

well I take my kids to the park 6yr twins,
I dont have a pool board yet so I watch them, and they are doing fine, I give the occasional thumbs up, which they seem please to get,
I let them do there thing ,and if they need help they ask, but really they just watch the bigger kids and try to copy them,
I did have one boy 10yr come over and ask if they belonged to me , then reported that they where really good,
to me thats cool,
I cant stand parents that feel they have to constantly push there kids, kids just need support and to feel you care what they do,wheather they are good or not.
But parents that dont supply basic safety gear for them , and then when one does get hurt ,they say I told you it was dangerous,,, maybe we should try tennis, theyre the worst,

Maybe you should call child protective service on their parents.

No, I've never been to a skatepark. I don't skate. I thought this was a basket weaving site.

Ya' dork.

Why you feel the need to take things out of context to push your little agenda is beyond me. Unresolved issues, childhood angst, mommy didn't hug you enough? Don't know, don't care. Thanks for hijacking the thread to push a point that never existed ya jackazz.

Fortunately, you're the only one who didn't quite comprehend the post that started this thread. But, given your responses, I'm not surprised.

I encouraged my kids to skate, not because I wanted to live vicariously through my son but for the (possibly even lamer) reason that I saw it as the best way of getting myself back on a board and into the skateparks. This encouragement largely consisted taking them to the park most weekends since my eldest was 7 and building boards with softer wheels and bushings for them. now, 6 years later, the only effect it's had on my 13 year old son is a tendency to ride very loose trucks and have a weird repertoire of complicated slides alongside his boardslides and big airs. If he gets a "sponsor me" vid it'll be made by his buddies at the local park who keep insisting he should make one. They seem to have better cameras than me anyway...

Today I was driving to the skate shop and on the way right up the street from me I saw a dad and his little girl no older then 7. The dad was riding a longboard and the little girl was riding a street board. Then on the way back the girl was riding the longboard and the dad was power sliding on the driveway haha.
It was a cool thing to see!

Uh, yes, it is cool to see parents and kids skating together. However, please recall this thread wasn't posted in response to the nicer side of parent-kid skate relationships, but the darker.

I never quite understand the issue that some people have staying on topic when posting a response.

Yeah, I hear there's medication for that now. If you don't have health insurance, you could just slam a bottle of Jack D.
