ESPN has decided to continue its 13-year tradition of vert competitions at this year's X Games. Over the past month ESPN has engaged in many conversations with the X Games BMX and Skateboard vert athletes in an attempt to transition the Vert discipline into one featuring a skatepark course design. While many athletes were initially receptive to the idea, the majority of them have indicated to ESPN that they would prefer to compete on a halfpipe. ESPN will also continue its plans to hold SuperPark as a new discipline for skateboarding and BMX at the X Games while working with the athletes to better define exactly how the SuperPark course will be designed. "The X Games has always had a commitment to the athletes and our consistent communication with them has allowed us to collectively grow this event to where it is today" said Chris Stiepock, General Manager, X Games. "In this particular case the communication took many turns but a consensus by the athletes has emerged that has lead us to reinstate Vert as an X Games discipline this year. We will continue to work with the athletes to make the X Games relevant and successful." Pro Skateboarder and 14-time X Games medalist, Bob Burnquist, said: "I think it's great that ESPN will continue to have a Vert contest, and I'm looking forward to working with them to make sure the vert competition at the X Games is the best that it can be."

I think the PRO's said "no ramp no skate" As was evident here most people tune in to see Vert Skating and Vert BMX even though we know that WE (I say this as a collective though I'm sure that some members here are an exception) can't do anything even remotely close to what the pro's can do we do understand what's involved. I still want to see Super Park...I want to see a flow course that requires a LINE not just ping pong ledge, rail, pyramid, bank yadda yadda yadda.

just because people are too pussy to skate vert and no-one can afford a ramp, whatever. as long as someone will bust out some hugeass moves in that huge ramp, vert will always be a part of skateboarding in my mind.
Imo what they should do is extend the halfpipe into a GIANT VERT RAMP POOL.
seriously, a pool the size of an X-games vert ramp, wouldn't that be sick?

I'm skeptical about it all. It's almost as if ESPN purposely let out a stuffed cat out of the bag just to see the reaction, like a marketing survey of some kind. Now that they know they can continue selling ad time to energy drink companies and whatever the hell else they want us to buy, they're suddenly keeping it in Skateboarding is just incidental to the machine

you are exactly correct, it was simply a way that they can prove to the advertisers that the time slot is worth the money they are asking, (if not more) and still some free advertising so that we are all thinking about the xgames right now, and looking forward to it early
I thought super park was like a skatepark on steroids. Just bigger ramps, higher rails, bigger everything. Now a vert ramp with bowled out corners sounds cool.

Hell yeah, they really need. one. I think it would up the ratings.

The problem with pools is that then need to be observed from above which is why most are in ground...build it above ground and no one at the floor level can watch
