here is an interaction scenario... you pull up to your favorite hill. all of a sudden there are 500 ppl there you gave ALL boards and ALL of them riding.. now go down that hill and enjoy interacting with everyone. sometimes things sound better than they actually are.
500 people? That's a bit absurd. If I had the resources to give boards to 500 people, then I would probably also have the resources to build a private skate spot with laser turrets and guard dogs with bees in their mouths so when they bark they shoot bees at you. In all seriousness, while I don't want my spots to get too crowded, I enjoy meeting up with other riders. I don't think everybody should ride, but I don't see the harm in everybody hopping on a board at least once in their life to see if they like it. I'm always stoked when somebody new picks up skateboarding (no matter what discipline they run with).
As far as the topic is concerned, I personally haven't encountered any of this animosity between skating disciplines. I always figured that it was confined to high school students and the Internet, but maybe it's just because of where I am (somewhere south of BFE).
Im just freakin surprised how image conscious this stuff is. who even gives a ####. if you like to do it, do it. in the week ive been here this board has seemed like philosophy class, everyone worries a LOT about what skateboarding "really" is and how to define themselves. you shouldnt need ###### credentials to be able to have fun in any given sport...
Hey TexasBomber, from one architect to another.... Architects who skate rule!!
What ind of work do you do and for whom?
Cool! I have for the last 10 years been doing nothing but public school bond work, new buildings, wing additions and renovations. Like any city, we have old school districts with old facilites looking to keep up. Nothing exciting but it pays and you gotta love what we do. I have a small firm with one partner (about 6 people total when everyone shows up). I worked for larger firms prior, doing the same thing (for some of the same clients -haha!).
I've been playing the architecture game for 23 years now, I was doing alot of K-12 work for the last five, and most recently joined a larger national firm doing all types of buildings (mixed-use, residential, commercial, international, etc.), but not K-12.
Good to hear from another architect, keep the stoke alive and go green !!
wow yea dude be happy that there are people to ride with. were i am theres almost never anyone to ride with and its much more fun ridding with lots of people than ridding with no one. maybe if you share your compassion of longboarding with them than they wont be these posers that you hate so much.
Do what you want to do for fun. Kickflips are fun. Cross stepping is fun. Indy hip transfer is fun. Bombing a hill is fun. Frontside air is fun. Coleman slide is fun.
STOP thinking you're better than someone because your board won't get caught on every pebble.
STOP thinking you're better than someone because you can tre flip a six set.
STOP thinking you're better than someone because you own leathers and break 40mph regularly.
STOP thinking you're better than someone because they can't pop a nollie.
Longboarding is not the respectable alternative to skating. Longboarding is skating. If you can pull a shanker and bust out g-turns, alright awesome! If you can backside air in the vert as well, hey more power to you. However, if you refuse to do something because you think you are above it, then you're an elitist asshole who doesn't deserve to be on a board in the first place.
Longboarding is skating. Skating is fun. Quit bitching, go do it.

None of you asshats are in the hammers shadow but, I will say the new year will bring some forum changes, one of which will be much stricter enforcement of the general anti-hater TOS rules.
Oh, by the way, it's all skating, long or short, DH, park, pool, street... IT'S ALL SKATING!!
This segregation shi# is just that segregation shi#.. which sucks on so many levels.

Well since everyone on silverfish agrees that longboarding does not suck, I say we all go and overload the forum where the people do think that longboarding sucks.
Fortunately I've got to the age where I really don't give a fcuk what anyone thinks about me enjoying myself.
You'd think there was enough rubbish going on in this world for haters to latch onto rather than turn on themselves over something that's supposed to be fun.
if i see somone with any sized or shaped peice of wood with 4 wheels im extra nice because i kno right off the bat we both skate. maybe not the same discipline as i but so what people that think otherwise are just ignorant. thats like going up to a fellow skater with the same exact board as you, go for a sesh, and bad mouthing him because your all about dancing and hes about carving/cruising. its just what they like to do.
