If you really felt 'ok' about riding longboards, any criticism wouldn't bug you. But the fact some of you get your panties in a twist, ready to come out protesting so strongly that what you do is 'ok' is really, really funny. It's not as if anyone can actually STOP you from riding a longboard. Well, maybe the cops. Or a big enough pothole.

also, if you are going to continue acting like this, why bother posting on the fish? i'm curious to the boredom in your life that makes this better than anything else you could be doing.
Do what you want to do for fun. Kickflips are fun. Cross stepping is fun. Indy hip transfer is fun. Bombing a hill is fun. Frontside air is fun. Coleman slide is fun.
STOP thinking you're better than someone because your board won't get caught on every pebble.

Longboarding is not the respectable alternative to skating. Longboarding is skating. If you can pull a shanker and bust out g-turns, alright awesome! If you can backside air in the vert as well, hey more power to you. However, if you refuse to do something because you think you are above it, then you're an elitist asshole who doesn't deserve to be on a board in the first place.
Longboarding is skating. Skating is fun. Quit bitching, go do it.
I live where this guy lives. I haven't run into many brahs riding longboards, but I have encounted lots and lots, and I mean lots, of people around here who ride dual kicktail skateboards and are coincidentally, also a-holes. There's no correlation, we just live in a city full of assholes. Some of them happen to have different hobbies.
(it does kind of irk me that he talks about how inherently limited longboarding is when he lives in a state that has some killer runs)

I'm completely tired of this whole "holier than thou" bullsh*t attitude that the skate community is full of. If you love having a board beneath your feet you are a skater. Who cares what the person wears or what music they listen to or what type of / name brand setup they ride. if you are genuinely skateboarding to have fun that's all that matters. I'm tired of all the dirty looks i get on campus for riding a larger board w/ big pink wheels from all the girl pants, element hoodie, untouched skate shoes wearing f***s. i can respect any kind of skating, this is something which seems to be much more common in the longboard community, if you're being real and you don't tread on me i won't on you. and maybe we could all learn new ways to enjoy the thing we love.
