And a 2 page thread went on at Concrete Disciples basically questioning why 'longboarders suck'....maybe it's time someone just put that graphic on the bottom of the boards they sell...
Some point to Mihalko or Edwards as proof that longboarders 'don't suck' but the same percentage of skaters who choose NOT to longboard are as good as say, Ryan Sheckler , is as small as the percentage of longboarders who can ride tight transition on a monstor deck like Edwards does. IOW, pretty small. So it's kind of not a good point to try to make on either side of the fence, if one is on a 'side'.
And don't be bummed you concrete "longboarders" ( maybe you should stop calling yourselves 'longboarders' and start calling yourselves skaters, that could be a good starting point to seperate the jocks from the not-jocks LOL ), anyway, don't be too bummed because those who ride longboards to ride liquid waves ( um, that'd be surfing ) are often just as hated as those who ride longboards on the concrete wave. They're considered less skilled/old burnouts/hippy-jocks etc...and many of you probably remember what happened over at the Slap forums. A veritable blood bath broke out.
Even on another thread in this forum, the words "....longboarding and skateboarding..." are strung together as if joining the two when in reality, the meaning seperates them further...and this from a pro-longboard company...when did longboarding STOP being skateboarding? When Tom Sims or any of the other guys riding longer boards back in the day were riding in parks, they were widely understood to be skateboarders by other skaters.
Is the problem language then? If "longboarders" insist on never calling themselves skaters, as they used to, are they contributing to the general derision much of the skateboarding community holds them in?
I see many in the skating community who do not ride longboards, behave as if even getting close to a longboard hanging on the wall could risk catching the disease known as Longboarder Suckitus Or that admitting to any knowledge of the ANY of the more popular components of a longer setup would be like being seen in public with a red headed, inbred cousin who walked down the street singing Broadway showtunes
So, just out of curiosity and if you can handle it, what do you think lends some weight TO the argument that 'longboarders suck' rather than against it.
Meanwhile, I'll be donning my flame resisting suit...

Haha wow... some of those comments are mighty angry. I've skated with some of the guys in the video and they by no means suck. Oh well, I still thinking bombing down a hill at 60+ will always be more fun than doing a kickflip.
I been a skater (punk) since the early 80's and damn proud it. It's all good, longboard, shortboard, ironingboard, whatever. It's the Nazi punk skaters that might feel that their skateboard "activity" has been duped by longboarders.
I magine it's like a doctor who goes out and buys a Harley and expects to ride and be respected by the Hells Angels. The shit aint gonna happen with out some harsh words of conflict. It's hard to tell if someones true to thier roots, we can never really know. Anybody can buy 5 decks and say "check out the quiver" and expect to be judged by that.
I have skated non-stop for almost 30 years. I'm an Architect and shred daily.
I have been skating too goddamn long to let anybody tell me that I have invaded their sport.
Wow..people need to take it easy. Reminds me of those kids that used to hang out under the bleachers in high school. All dressed exactly the same trying to be "different". If I want to wear flip-flops on my board, I will. If I want to wear a suit on my board, I will. At least I'm on my board.
Sure, agreed. I know i just get the best joy out of seeing some hippie jocks buy a brand new deck, talk about how much they are getting into longboarding, only to get wobbles on the first decent hill they descend.... and proceed to put said new deck under the bed (with their wakeboard... haha) and never ride it again bc they got their ass handed to them and are enjoying two weeks of neosporin.
Hrm...personally I dont agree. I'd love to see everyone and their mother on a board. The larger the community the better IMO. Large amounts of people can lead to innovation. Besides, we cut down our foot print on the planet. If I could I'd give everyone a board to ride. I'd teach those that I could teach, and learn from those that can teach me.

More people on boards also means more dumbasses on boards... and last thing i want at MY spot is dumbasses... but hey if your all for it man, send me your streets you ride.. you can have busloads of buddies to ride with. You might even get to wear some cool jackets and rings with greek letters on them. wow.
