So I was reading through the downloadable CW Spring addition, looking at ads for Maryhill and that awesome ad from gravity that Im gonna put in the chicks on boards thread. Then something caught my eye. The new seismic boards. I've been wanting to see someone shredding these beautiful decks ever since they came out. Much to my surprise, in the ad there wasn't a sweaty guy steezin up a rock and roll in a bowl on the buddha or pullin a high line in a ditch on the meg. There was a girl, holding the meg, standing there, badly green-screened in-front of a path. In the top right there was another badly photoshopped picture of her "riding" on what looked like sand.
I don't see why seismic would do this. I would have much reffered to see an ugly guy shredding on one of the boards or an overly scientific write up of the new "black-ops" wheels but no, they photoshop a model. The Venom Bushing ads were better than that.
Does seismic not realize that pretty girls don't make us want to buy things? I am not happy with seismic now, I was hoping these kind of ads would stay with Target and JC Penny's attempts to be skater, and not release their plague on the companies that actually help the business.
Oftentimes smaller companies (or independents like Seismic) can't afford to design and finance their own advertisements. Seismic is a company that doesn't want to alienate their client base.
Shitty ads are probably the result of a shitty advertisement company, one thats previously worked in JC Penny ads, like you said.
why not write to Seismic and let them know...in fact I would urge all of you to write to the advertisers in CW...tell them what you like, what you don't like...
Dan definitely rides his product and can back it up. What I like about Dan is that he does and says what feels right to him. Truly a unique individual. I work for another LB co. and hav e the utmost respect for what Dan does. BTW I just saw the new ad and I think you fishers might like it

one thing i forgot to write is, i dont see why they would use an advertising agency
a disposable camera, dan as the rider, a photographer and one of the boards would have done better

I agree. Definitely a mistake to do the advertising out-of-company.
Wow, that is pretty bad. I agree with the person who said a better ad photo could have been made with a disposable camera and a good rider. I hope they didn't pay anyone to make that.
Her outline looks fake...it would have been better to see a pic of somebody on the board w/seismic trucks riding it or something...

I dont know what you guys are seeing but Jilly B. is smokin! The ad to me looks like the Seismics dudes did it themselves. Thats pretty core to me!
We have a bazillion page thread here about chicks on boards and I am glad that the Seismic dudes contributed one more
the point is, even soulboards could do that with the rolling thunder and it would look just as good
the girl doesnt even ride, isnt that hot and didnt even go outside during the shoot.
it doesnt look like seismic did it themselves.
i think seismic could do a hell of a lot better job than that
The ad is insulting and condescending. To say they couldn't do better is total b.s. They probably were running late on the deadline. And why Michael didn't say,"You know, I'm trying to run a magazine that's DIFFERENT than all the others so ads that are crap are not going to fly." is beyond me. Oh wait, the money. Sorry Mike, I always forget that little reality.
BTW, many of the vendors DO belong to Silverfish and do come by here. The NCDSA, after all, is practially a ghost town now. No offense to Adam, he does what he can.
It's the kind of ad that might appeal to the lunkheaded, drooling, and unthinking zombies out there, but I believe it's possible most CW subscribers would not care to be put into that category.
