I once dated a girl who was a roller coaster fanatic. Took me all over the East Coast to ride everything from Cedar Point to Busch Country-Williamsburg, Six Flags, Kings Island, Orlando. I don't mean to be glib but even back in the '80s when they were getting bigger and faster I told her once, "these things are going to start killing people. They are just too fast with too many parts and girders to go wrong."
just for the record, the victim was tresspasing and on the ground when the coaster came by. He wasn't actually riding it at the time.

so your headline is actually misleading. stupidity is more dangerous than skateboarding. rollercoasters have nothing to do with the story. idiot could have been retreiving his hat off some train tracks or a busy road.
also, im pretty sure they designed that new canadian one in roller coaster tycoon. its called a steel twister i think.... maybe a hypercoaster, and i can see the braking sections! maybe i used to play that game too much.....
look at the front of the cars.....

I miss that game. Used to spend hours on it making coasters and watching my money rise..

IMO, it was his fault. He should of asked if someone could get his hat instead. Or maybe not of taken his hat on the ride in the first place. Or make sure that the roller coaster isn't coming before he steps on the tracks.
btw - since I started longboarding, rollercoasters have been less intense for me. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's an unfortunate, tragic event. The kid who was with him and wasn't hurt has got to be despondent. Peace to him and everybody who was involved or knew the deceased.

Look at how many people die on roller coaster related accidents though. It is less then people being struck by a car walking down the street. Probably less then people killed by lightening.
As for myself I hope to design them one day. I have been a rollercoaster junky since i was tall enough to ride them. Have gone all over the country just to ride them. Id have to say it is the one thing I love more then skateboarding!
