Huge media exposure on The Today Show (really big over there, right?)
Billabong buying Sector 9. Media and marketing frenzy is about to take off just because of that deal alone. Soon enough a Hollywood mega star is going to pick it up and be featured on magazines. Then it will explode. It will be the end of it as we know it.
I kind of liked longboard skateboarding being a "niche" thing...

yah it was fun to be different too... but now you will be seeing lots more people riding loaded boards because of their marketing frenzy just like s9 but loaded is better...
i really think everybody is blowing this outta proportion. i don't see it going that far, ever. i'm sure you'll see matthew McCaughanay(sp?) rolling up and down the board walk shirtless, but i can't picture any famous faces doing it.

thats gonna be bad and good. it will be good because many people will be enjoying a sport that obviously everyone on this forum loves. and it will make many people happy. but alot of people will just pick up a board think they are k-rimes and go down the biggest hill they can find without a helmet or knowing how to stop and they will die. it will give all of us bad reps. and we will no longer be allowed to skate hills and races will cease to exist.

Racing will never cease to exist. There is a fire that burns in all of us. It is a spirit to itself and it will endure.
Racing will not die.
You need to make sure that those you see out riding learn the proper techniques and teach them about safety as well. There will be those rebels who will not wear a helmet, but hey that's darwinism at work.
I agree with the last part of your statement. Let natural selection go to work on them. I'm not out to police a bunch of kooks who think they can disrespect gravity and the laws of physics and still win. A lot of them will get hurt once and quit anyway.
