Default My Maloof Moment.

So I caught the Maloof Money Cup contest on CBS this weekend. I'll just have to say it may have been the best street contest I've ever seen. Definitely the best street course I've ever seen. That is how I have always said a street course should be built. The vert contest was crazy too. That ramp was insane. The eight wall thing worked pretty well. But all that, as great as it is, is not my favorite moment.

My favorite moment of the whole televised event was just a little human interest sort of deal. I'm watching and up pops comedian Paul Rodriquez. I'm thinking "why is this comedian getting air time on a skateboard contest?" I never realized that P-Rod was Paul Rodriquez's son. Never occurred to me.

But here I am. Watching Paul Senior talking about his son the professional skateboarder. You could see the pride in the man's face. He was so excited about the whole thing. Chant "P Rod" and all. A father beaming with pride for the achievements of his son. Or so this is how I perceived it. I think I could even hear him during the finals not only cheering his son on but even the other skaters. I may be wrong on that but it sounded like him.

After the whole thing they showed Paul Senior talking about his son being a pro skater. This was during the credits. He talked about how at first he couldn't understand how you could make money from skateboarding. This coming from a man that makes a living off telling jokes. But you could tell how proud he was. That was just the greatest. Watching this man going on about how proud he was of his son.

Makes me wish I had kids.
Someday I hope.

I saw that too(have it recorded). It was cool seeing him their supporting his son. My son is the whole reason I started to skateboard.

I had no idea they were father and son either. I just never made the connection.

I was thinking how cool it would be to see an issue of CW with father and son/daughter interviews and stories. Paul Senior talking about P Rod or Tony Hawk talking about Riley. You know a total Father's Day issue.
