nothin major has been reported. the worst damage ive seen on the news is shampoo bottles all over the floor at some supermarkets.

Same here at home. I was expecting all my surfboards and TV to be on the ground. This one had potential though. I have 5, 8 feet tall fireproof rotating filing cabinets that were swaying and almost fell over. That would not have been fun since they all weight over 500 lbs each.

I live in Northridge, CA, but I go to school in SD right now, so I barely felt it, but back home I've heard it wasn't too bad at all.

Nearly slept through the Northridge earthquake way back when. (iunno how)

BTW, this is what I have to deal with:

There has to be at least a foot allowance between the cabinet and the wall. We never felt the need to secure these things down especially when you have all five of them right next to each other with no gaps. They were professionally installed too. The 500 lbs. weight estimation I gave is WAY off for each of them. 200lbs. must be just the shelving dividers themselves. With all our files in, you wont be able to nudge these things in any direction let alone 5 side by side.
