Re: anyone tried those wrist protectors that are advertised here?
They're designed for snow riding where overextension of the wrist joint is a more common injury than direct impact. Dunno how well that would translate to skating slams on concrete.... I also dunno if they're any good! Hell I know nothing... oh well
Re: anyone tried those wrist protectors that are advertised here?
The best wrist guards I've owned are made by a rollerblade industry company - Triple Eight.
They have a soft, kevlar palm pad that's the real genius in the pads - no hard plastic on the palm side, so you can actually still grab your board while riding, AND it provides good impact protection.
They have a hard plastic strip on the back side, but it is removable. They are sized more like gloves than the usual half-arm-length wrist guard casts that everyone else sells. The other genius element is the wide, wide velcro strip that's positioned exactly where your wrist is - that lets you tighten or loosen, and increase or reduce the wrist support to balance exactly what you need.
I use mine without the backside plastic.
I haven't seen them in stores in a long time though - I bought mine probably 3 or 4 (or 5??) years ago.
I hope they aren't discontinued - if anyone finds any anywhere (especially online) let me know! I could use a new set. Nothing else compares, for skating.

When I had metal skewers sticking out of my elbow I had to go to the doctor three times a week just so that they could check for any infections that might occur because I had holes in my skin.

Yeah, isn't that fun? Nothing like IV antibiotics to liven up the party.
