I recently had a long train ride and decided to grab a skateboarder magazine at a convenience store. Well, needless to say, I was HORRIBLY disappointed. The magazine was about 80 pages and there were maybe 4 articles and 76 ads.
All in all it made me really appreciate your magazine. I feel bad for short boarders, the magazines about their scene sucks. Our magazine is full of awesome articles and is super awesome to read.
So, thanks again for making such a great magazine for our sport!
When you say "100% skateboarding" you mean it!

Transgirl has become the seventeen of skateboard magazines. I was given a free last months Transgirl yesterday at The board room shop in Oceanside because I was buying some 76mm Sector 9 racing formula wheels.
The only two cool article were Tony Hawk.
This cat named Richie Jackson from Australia who's a throwback from another place in time. Who does the most original street skating tricks I have seen in a long time on a video. check out the google links http://www.google.com/search?client=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Then I get to what new skate shoes will be hot for the fall season might as well be what pumps to wear this fall. So I filed the magazine away in the round filing cabinet at work.
So thank you Michael for producing Concrete Wave it a great magazine about skateboarding not fashion shows.

He should get together with his near-namesake Australian Richie Thomson (AKA Old School Richie), who really is a throwback from another place and time. 25 years apart, but they share the same hair and possibly some other undefinable psychadelic quality.
Thought you ment Phelps. I found a store in Union Square that sells CW. Not a Paragon, a magazine store a block away.

you think i wanted to see you get away with it? you were everything i was and everything i wanted to be, everything we'd all like to be. now that we know better, we don't take the chances, we know sooner or later it always catches up with you.
magazines are created for a number of reasons
I like to think that Transworld, Thrasher, Skateboarder, Skateboard Mag are speaking to their audience and stoking out their readers (and advertisers). My response to what I saw on the shelves was to create CW. I know many skaters open it up and can't fathom what is presented.
I am cool with that, because if I try and emulate what the other mags are doing, I won't have an audience.
I am thrilled that the mag resonates with you. I hope that you continue skating and enjoy the mag until your dying day. Seriously... I have no plans to sell to Larry Flynt (not enough porn in there for him, methinks!)
I liken CW to your favorite local pizza joint. It's not the size or scope of Domino's but the pizza tastes great. We will continue to fiddle with the ingredients until we deliver the perfect pie!
I want to apoligise for slaming on Transworld . I picked up the term Transgirl when I hanging out one summer with Canada's own Stephen Harnish and Britt Parrott editor of TWS in the late 80's.
I think they were upset with what was happening to a cool skateboard magazine back
then. I think they were correct on what it has become a catalog you pay for.
and I know the editor very well...the current issue is a stunner... seriously
They let a whole bunch of folks art direct...and I found the results amazing.
i like the ads in both. arent most magazines for the ads anyway? thats what i was always taught working in the book industry.
