I have been watching the the public companies in the action sports area for some time (for obvious reasons - as I own a shop).
It's not just that Quik is not performing well in the market - it's that the entire market is not performing well.

General Motors stock was at $2.14 the other day - the lowest it has been since 1942.
US housing starts are at the lowest they have ever been since they started keeping records in the early 50's.

The US economy is in rough shape - but the world will not end and as soon as the media stops going on, and on, and on, and on about how bad everything is - people will realize that it is not so bad and things will rebound.

Historically now is the time to start buying stocks.
They will only go up.

Of course if you don;t have money to loose in the stock market - stay the hell out of it.

quick does not own sector nine and arbor....billabong does. and why is it a bad thing when quick does it but not nike. Everybody loves their hurley and nike 6.0 ish. But they are a running company not a skate or surf company......just intrests me that all the small companies that finally make it big are now the big corporate giants that are taking over everything. They started just the same way all the small companies did, but they made it. what about volcom buying electric. they were started in 96 and now they are huge, buying companies to expand their market area, seems smart to me.

I think the thing that fascinates me about Quik is the Rossingnol deal. Clearly, this was an albatross around their necks. Perhaps it is time to debate the differences between that deal and the S9/Billabong deal. I sense that Billabong has a better ability to pick companies. The purchase of S9 seems an awful lot better choice than Quik buying Rossingnol.

At the time the Rossi deal might not have been such a bad buy - but from my understanding the people running Rossi never liked it. They are now the ones who bought it from Quik . . . not saying they had anything to do with the "apparent" devaluing of the company . . . but it will be interesting to see what happens to Rossi now that they are owned by the people who were / are running it.

As for Billabong being better at buying brands - - - Quik has done very well with it's other purchases - DC and Mervin (Lib Tech and Gnu).
