The most effecient way is to alternate between pushing with your front foot and pushing with your back foot. Goofy/regular to goofy/mongo rather than goofy/regular to switch/regular. It's much easier to stay in the same stance (pointed the same direction) and alternate legs than to alternate stances. You almost stand in slalom water ski stance in between, but once you master pushing with your other leg you catch on quick. I would recommend going out and only skating mongo for a session. It will feel awkward but it really is worth it. Check skogging.com to see what it looks like.
