i believe there is a discussion proving that in the ISSA forum. the dye is an additive to the thane compound. different colored take up different percentages of the mold, because you need more of less depending on the color. that change in ratio make the urethane change from color to color slightly in duro and consistency.

I had always heard that the color does change the duro. I guess it would make sense. When you add color you are adding extra ingredients to the formula and diluting it. Some colors you may have to add more pigment to achieve a certain depth, vividness or true-ness of color. So the more pigment you add the more diluted the mixture of urethane. Thus some colors would have a more diluted urethane mixture and that would affect its properties be it hardness or structural integrity. But how much are we really talking? A few degrees duro? Maybe. But your duro is going to change with age and use anyway.

for example, pink bigzigs dyed red.

it changes the property of the wheels quite a bit, from jumpy-choppy drift to a clean drift.

Dying your wheels is a different thing. That is after the fact. Any effect that dying would have would be confined to the layers that the dye contaminated.

The effect of coloring wheels during manufacturing is the issue I was referring to. Just like in tattoos, certain colors don't show as well as others and more pigment has to be used to achieve the right color. Now I'm not a materials expert or have any real experience in making wheels or mixing urethane so I am just making an educated guess on my theory here. But it seems to me when adding pigment to the urethane mix during the manufacturing process that to a degree it dilutes the urethane mixture and thus affecting its performance. The more pigment you have to add the more diluted the mixture. This is why, as it was explained to me, is why natural "white" wheels are harder and more true in duro than colored wheels. But that could all be BS to back up someone's belief and superstition in wheels.

Anything added to a plastic material will have side-effects on other properties of the plastic.

For example: Clear (natural) polycarbonate is rated V-2 for flammability. Blue polycarbonate is rated V-0 for flammability.

Same material, one with blue coloring and one without.

i believe you Brian. its, just color seems like it could change the wheel. not saying that Abec11 haven't spend hundreds of man hours working around that and fixed it, its just makes common sense that when you add a different chemical into a mix, something is going to be different from mixture to mixture. if there is consistency across the board for reactions, then i wouldnt change. and if there is, then you could modify the other parts to fix it.

I quite clearly remember years back Chris telling me it DID make a difference. Kind of like when Chris made his first slalom wheel (Stingers) and Dan Howard made the same wheels in black (Turner La Costas) which basically, were dead urethane.

No other companies outside of Abec 11 and SK8Trip get to use the Abec 11 Classic thane' formula and the Reflex Formula for their wheels. It sounds like this case the wheels were made in the same mold, but different urethane compounds were used. Color only changes the wheel aesthetically.......its really the formula of the wheel that makes it different from the others.

no... its just those that already have issues. i have been following this thread since its conception. yes centrax are real, and no they arent for sale yet. and sorry to say, speaking about how they arent for sale yet isnt going to make them release any faster. they know we wnat to know when will they come out.

we delt with this a long while, lets not have this battle again. please. go back to the tens and 20s pages and you'll see what it does.
