I know....for me, more kingpins have snapped "free riding" than bombing or sliding...
i never said free riding wasnt hard on trucks, but the design of the truck has many high performance advantages, (aka better slalom setup, better control at speed, less slop....)
that doesnt mean the truck doesnt free ride great
a Ferrari drives great at 25mph, but it was designed for A LOT more

There are MANY urban legends with regard to what makes a longboard work well, and there are MANY counterintuitive ideas that work better.
Urban Legend:
Loose bearings with little or thin lube that do well in the "spin test" are fast
The harder the wheel, the faster you go
Composites and lightweight boards are better
Metal on metal is a bad thing
Counterintuitive Reality:
Tightened bearings with presion spacing and heavier grease are faster
The softer and "bouncier" the wheel, the faster you go
It's hard to beat a good wood board
Metal on metal is a good thing, provided that proper lubrication and tolerances are present
If metal-on-metal is a bad thing, perhaps we should consider using rubber balls in our bearings Not trying to be a complete smart-ass here, because in all honesty I fully expected the ride to feel harsher from spherical bearings than from a typical longboard truck. My experience however is that the WHEELS and the DECK are the key components in dampening and absorbing the vibrations while riding. I don't even think that soft riser pads bring that much to the table. A good wood deck and high rebound wheels with a lot of urethane on them makes for a smooth ride regardless of what one might suspect the metal-on-metal trucks are going to feel like. What I feel is a very tight, very precise steering system under a smooth, shock absorbing deck and riding on a plush, responsive set of wheels. With Fyre Trucks I can pump my speedboard on flat ground to about 17mph. This is with 83mm tall x 78mm wide wheels on a 36.5" axle-to-axle wheelbase. It feels like an exotice sports car under my feet. Words that come to mind are "solid", "precise", "tight", "flat-tracking", and "sticky".
This is a drop-through speedboard with Fyre Trucks and 83mm Centrax prototypes. Note that the 50 degree front hanger needs some clearance cut from the deck to allow the relatively wide pivot head from contacting it. The 20 baseplate in the rear doesn't need it because the baseplate is taller toward the end.
We've been quietly selling the Fyre Trucks to those who call the shop and sweet-talk Sarah. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone or I'll have to personally assemble a whole bunch of them all at once ...
i have a question. do the dimples in the wheel affect aero dynamics of the wheel. it would be a small difference but would it have an effect similar to gold bal dimples?
mmm...

I was told it was designed for rain skating...
it would be more aerodynamic if they were actually "dimples", not holes...
that would be a cool concept though.... (hmmm.... dimpled skateboard...)

These are speed holes. They make the car go faster.

Ha! Not a Cardinal Chaput fan but I do like his wheels. (I think anyone that makes skateboard stuff is crazier than peanut butter on pizza)
I respect a few of the slalom pro's here in Rado' and one has a set of Fyre trucks...I might call them over engineered aluminum cans but they are traction. Traction is sex.
I like paying good money for traction..ahh since I can't get any sex.

I would like people to buy the Fyre Trucks. Support Sex!

Re: Abec 11 Updates
sadly, i am one of those broke ass skaters. but, i am twenty, so if i wasn't broke, it would be weird. i do want some water centrax, just for safety purposes. hydroplaning is not as fun as really trying to slide. all i know is that at least i can afford to buy randals, and indys, so i am happy with those.

slide, you are a funny guy...
I see u been trolling other threads as well..
keep it up, silverfish needs more troll newbs with deep pockets..
My friends are too cheap or too scared to longboard. But I can see why, like cocaine, this is turning into a heart pounding money pit. I've spent over $1500 on this sport since the beginning of September. I went a little overkill, but it was worth it. When you see it you'll know where most of it went.
I've ridden other peoples boards off and on in the past, but haven't ridden in about a year and a half when I decided to finally buy my own in August. I wanted a full on speedboard from the beginning, so I got myself a Godspeed Justice Foamcore. It's actually a newer one than the one on the website, the racing hoods and truck mounting were changed a little. It's sitting on Tracker Fastracks with Bones Swiss and Seismic SpeedVents and Hotspots.
Godspeed Shockra Series II Foamcore. Oh wait, that costs about three times as much as a Drop Speed. Still a great all around board. Doesn't matter if you're going 10km/h or 100km/h.
By the way, the only thing I've purchased related to Abec11 so far has been Fyres.
I'm surprised no one brought up ceramic bearings. With less rolling resistance they accelerate faster and have a higher top speed.

Almost as much as the private message calling me a butthurt Fyre fanboy. - But in all seriousness, the only irrelevant comment I made that you quoted was the middle one about 10kph to 100kph. I was being a douche on purpose. But the rest were legit. And the first one you quoted, when I said cheap, I meant my friends don't want to spend ANY money on skateboarding. I didn't mean cheap compared to how much I've spent. The money spent includes safety gear as well.
Hold up, are you actually 36?
Edit - Why do you even care about the Fyre trucks when your disciplines are "Skatepark, longboard, carving, sliding, pumping, tricks, slalom, buttboard?" Yup, I'm the only troll here.

oh come on guys, take this fighting to PMs. we don't need to see it. seriously, this is chaput's space for his products. if you want to bitch and moan about prices, poor skaters who cant afford precision, start a thread in anything goes about it. i appreciate Sk8norcal because he has proven himself knowledgeable about all this stuff. but come on guys, do fight here. take it outside.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cold beer in one hand - longboard in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, Yeaa Haaa What A Ride!!!
