    Default Anyone try sandboarding?

Looks pretty fun and gnarly. I'd rather go during winter so the falls don't hurt as much.

it looks like something that would be fun for like a day or so. Although some of those dunes near Monteray are gnarly. Eh, think i would be slightly above the average fun level.

i can not emphasize this enough. not fun at ALLLLL!!!!!!

you need a super steep incline to get any amount of speed. and that "speed" is less than 5 mph. I was on one of the steepest dunes in my life and moved slower than walking down the slope. I also had to wax the damn board every 15ft or it would come to a stop.

sand sucks to walk in. and since you have to walk up a hell of a lot for almost zero fun. it's totally not worth it. (and believe me you will be walking most of the time)

the way sand moves under a board is umpredictable depending on the variable changes in the surface of the dune. and since you're not going all that quick you cant just run over little bumos, you either have to hop or eat ####. not fun.

God, it was the worst 2 hrs of any beach ive ever been on.

oh carving... doesnt exist. you go broadside for a bit and you lose all speed. which is hard ot get back any way.

How do these folks go much faster? I'd recommend having a dune buggy. Members of your group would rotate who drives or sandboards. How fast can they go?

I tried it at the florence, or dunes a couple weeks ago. I was there to ride my ATV but i decided to give it a try. Its fun until you have to walk back up. So i recommend some kind of transportation. And that video is at sand mountain. Its Big, They can build up lots of momentum on that hill.

I've done it once. It's alright. For me, it's not as enjoyable as skating, but it was a good time and I wouldn't mind doing it again. Walking back up the hill does suck major nuts though.

    even more fun!!!
Leaf boarding, in monterey me and a ton of friends got skateboard decks and went to this massive hill that was covered in dirt and leaves, we then went down the hill standing on the skateboards, and you would just glide over everything, it was sick

Mountain Boarding is Way Cooler. You could also try doing it using a body board

    World's First Sandboarding Park

This is where I plan to go someday. One can use a snowboard or a true sandboard (constructed better for the sport). This way I can rent one of their's and see how I like the sport. These things can COST!!

As an aside I'm gonna see if anyone's posted about good longboard hills in this town.

The speed record is over 50mph.

I've been "carving" on a sandboard since the late 80's.

If your ever near Morro Bay, California drop me an email or PM and I would be stoked to take you sandboarding.

    All the best,
    Jack
