Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ in KC is best place for bbq hands down!! It sets the bar pretty high.

Gratifying to see the distinction between grilling and BBQ, so high up there in the thread.

I love both. One of my roommates once commented that I'd grill eggs for breakfast if they wouldn't fall through, and that's pretty fair. We grill 3-5 nights a week during good weather (not much of that in SoCal) and have maintained a solid line of smoker use/ownership since 1986. Damn, I was like two... 8)

For BBQ, we like tri-tip, spare and beef ribs. We do our tri-tip in a variation of Santa Maria style, and our ribs on a variation of Texas style. We've also been known to BBQ bologna (learned from a KC BBQ maven), chickens and the Thanksgiving turkey.

For grillin', if I can fit it on there, we'll do it. Steaks, chicken, lamb, pork loin (tonight as a matter of fact) sausage, pineapple, peppers, onions, neighbors' kids...we'll grill it all up if I can rub it with salt, pepper and garlic first!

THEN, we gets down to "BBQ Joints". I've been to BBQ joints from SoFla to Maine, New Jersey, Kansas, Missouri, Vancouver to San Diego and as far west as Bora Bora. Everyone's got the place that's "the best anywhere", and I love many of those places. De Colores, baby: try 'em all!

Ironically, San Diego has precious few, if any, truly good Q joints. Our best were the Gellarosa Ranch (KC style) downtown and Clay's Texas in La Jolla, both long gone these days. The most popular joint in town boils their damn ribs and think that's "right". Ho-Lee-Crap. Now, get on into Los Angeles, and the scene changes. Some of the best Q in the region is hiding in the megapolis, including the best Texas Q outside of Texico there ever was: Dr. Hogly Wogly's Tyler Texas BBQ. My college buddy grew up in Tyler, and his dad ran a BBQ joint. He knew Q and was adamant about this one. I reckon we could use a thread that identifies great BBQ joints...

Barbecue is a tradition in my family. When the family gets together, all we talk about is barbecue and how to make it better. If you're ever in the area, give me a little warning and I'll make you some ribs so good you'll take the bones home with you, just to savor the flavor.

Hey, I love makin good cue, let me know ahead of time and I'll have somethin tasty ready.

My uncle and I are thinkin about opening a barbecue shack. There are only two really good competitors in town, and they still ain't as good as ours. I just gotta work on my brisket. It's not there yet. I can do pork, but my brisket kinda sucks.

Dammit, this is randomq, I forgot my buddy was signed in.

I think your taste in BBQ depends on where your from. I lived in KC form most of my life and then moved to FL. I've tried most southern style bbq in FL,GA,AL,MS,LA and I still prefer KC style. I just dont like vinegar based bbq sause. The sauce makes or breaks the bbq, if the sauce is yellow in color, it's not bbq sauce.

Also, if there is any chance that we can get everyone to boycott Sonny's Bar-BQ that would be awesome! This place is a complete disgrace to the bbq community, IMO.

I totally wasn't thinking about the mustard type of bbq sauce, sorry about that. I've traveled to VA and NC and tried bbq there, which is fairly similar. It was decent, and i would definitely try it again cause it's been a while since i had it. i mostly just cant stand the vinegar based stuff, which i know a lot of people really like here in FL.

Wanted to bring this back with some fresh-smoked rib pictures. Little bit of italian sausage I found at the bottom of the freezer too. Smoked italian sausage is kinda "ehh". Not bad, but not that good.
