Stecyk III decades ago, skateboarding at its best is an anti-fascist activity that turns the modern industrial wasteland of concrete and pavement into a canvas for individual freedom and self expression. Riding what and how the skate industry corporate greedheads want you to is slipping back into robotic consumer drone status.
Agreed, that movie puts me in a trance everytime it comes on TV, I cant change the channel. Too bad it came out the same year as Forest Gump, otherwise it would have got best movie.

I love how he plotted his escape and stole the man's suit, shoes, money and well basically is living a better life than he did before lol I just loved the movie.

Great Movie, but Pulp Fiction, SR, Then Gump should have been the Order that year.
Plus, for me, Cool Hand Luke and the Great Escape, and maybe even Midnight Express, are beating SR.

Guess I should have paid more attention to the thread title. SR is not only one of the best "prison" movies, its just one of the best movies period! Dont get me wrong, I LOVE Pulp Fiction, but there is no way that it is even close to SR or Forest Gump as far as stories go. I will admit, I have never seen Cool Hand Luke.
My wife says SR is the winner hands down because it doesn't have a sad ending and shows spiritual power and redemption. Her second choice was "Chained Heat" starring Linda Blair, a wonderful all girls prison movie/explotation flick. Her tastes vary. I would have posted the trailer (search youtube), but it has boobies and I didn't want the thread shut down.

I saw Cool hand luke finally I must say it's very funny and a great movie but I don't know if it beats my Shawshank R. but everyone does have a favorite lol....
I just saw SR again last night......sweeeeeeeeeeet movie gotta love those thunder storms...

Escape From Alcatraz is by far the best prison movie of all time. Great cast, brilliant director, tight editing, all action, no girls, and no lame new age sentimentalism.

Was on my short list as well, hard to beat Clint.
What about the originial "Longest Yard" with Burt Reynolds. Football and Prison, what a combo.
