The Youth of America
Why won't my nephew study? He must think talking to girls on the phone and skateboarding will carry him through life. Failing classes has become normal to him these days, pretty scarey when you accept failure as a way of life by age 15.
The system will not go away, money sadly is the source of freedom for most. Learn to become part of the system or suffer outside it.
Skateboarding is to replace boredom, not to replace your obligations.
You were born into this time and place, accept the way it is and try to make peace with it. Get a nice job, work hard, maybe a house, car, and good wife. You will find comfort in this formula, there is no magical place where you get to F. off all the time and the party never ends. YOU HAVE TO WORK if you wanna play, young people are the future of this country, don't feed off the system - try and contribute. Us old guys will all be gone someday, what will the country be like 25yrs from now? We need our young people to recognize that HARD WORK is a virtue. Skateboarding is icing on the cake - just get yourself some cake first.

Re: The Youth of America
I suppose you should just take your nephew to a Wal Mart, smack him upside the head, point to a cashier and shout "YOU SEE!? YOU SEE WHAT YOU WILL BECOME YOU LAZY LITTLE ####!? YOU'LL BE JUST LIKE THEM! BARELY ALIVE AND LIVING IN AN ENDLESS CYCLE OF MISERY AND SHAME, BEGGING FOR THE SWEET, SWEET RELEASE OF DEATH!"
no diss to cashiers

It would have really sucked to find out that all my best years happened before I was 20. I'm 41 and having a BLA$T.

Re: The Youth of America
Don't know what's causing it.
Labor has become a 'bad' job to have. Most kids today consider blue collar to be no collar.
It seems that they want to work at the SunGlass hut in the mall and make $300k per year.
I think it all stems from our labor market, or lack there of.
Today's 'best' jobs don't require a solid effort to earn a living. They require 'chance' and luck (In the best/'nicest' circumstances).
Malcontent and entitlement are the new hard-work and opportunity.
I've said this to a few close friends recently, I wonder if any of you feel this way?
The new American dream, is the old French dream.(socialism).
The new Mexican dream, is the old American dream.(cowboys, no offense).
The new French dream, is the old English dream.(socialism with side jobs).
So on, and so-forth.
Societies change and it doesn't seem like anything can be done to control it (or to stop it).

Re: The Youth of America
I'm just gonna go ahead an say that maybe it is good that he is doing this so early in his life. So many people get to about 18-19 and get to college and basically live the complete opposite to being successful. They fail miserably and leave school only to move back in with mom and dad for an undetermined amount of time. Maybe one day it will hit him and hopefully it will be in high school so he will have a chance to go to community college and redeem himself. Honestly all you can do for people like that to me is just keep reminding them how inaccessible life becomes after so much carelessness.Good luck and try to look on the bright side.

Re: The Youth of America
My bad, I sent Malakai a PM to try and fix it. I did not realize that Anything Goes does not show up in New Posts - won't happen again, sorry to anyone that posted here only to see it in General Longboarding as well.

Re: The Youth of America
I blame trying to fit in and "be cool" I went through that stage in 7th grade, but three years later I'm all better. Could be my intelligence level, could just be a phase everyone goes through.

Re: The Youth of America
As a 16 year old, I'm pretty sure my parents are a huge part of it. They always got on my ass if I didn't meet their expectations, and would threaten/revoke privileges if I continued it on long enough.
I personally think my mom gave me a great upbringing and did an outstanding job teaching me what my priorities are.
