I heard the No Doubt song back in like 2005 or whatever, but this word seems to be used a lot. Is this some West Coast word? If I said this in Michigan I'd probably get slapped up.

silly norcal. Hella isnt even a real contraction. Damn hippies...must be all there crappy sports teams and not-so-crappy drugs keeping them down.

When I lived in San Diego I met this girl from the Bay Area. My friend and I hung out with her and I heard the word hella for the first time. She must have said it about 50 times in 15 minutes.

We left and were laughing so damn hard, then I realized that we must say 'like' at least as much if not more.

its funny, Cali parts have their own words. We say "like" non stop (usually in place of said for me...i.e. "i was like 'no way!' and she was like 'i know!'"), Norcal says hella, and SD...well...my freind in SD knows a girl who says butthurt in place of sad/gay.

It's a better word that using Jew or Gay... which I am thoroughly against.

I actually can't remember if I use Hella or not... Now that I'm aware of the word, it's hard to tell.

I never knew "hella" came from norcal until like 2 years ago. But the first time I heard it was when an 8-10 year old kids said it at a mall when he walked passed me (this is in SoCal). He said, "Duuuuude that's hella gay." (he was talking to his friend)
