Man Arrested for Allegedly Cooking and Eating Cats - ABC News

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In a case that has shocked even investigators, a California man is in jail for allegedly cooking and eating cats.

Jason Louis Wilmert is being held in the Kern County Jail on charges alleging animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Neighbors called sheriff's deputies when they heard cats wailing and screeching at the 36-year-old's house in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says he has "never seen anything like this."

Pruitt says investigators found evidence that led them to believe "he had the intent to use a cat for food," but he couldn't comment directly on the evidence. The case has been sent to the district attorney.

Wilmert is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.

after skinning and gutting dead cats i have no interest in eating them.

but i did hear that locally someone has been adopting all the free animals off craigslist, after which they go disappearing. there is actually a small dog theft ring here too, how ****ed is that? and who knows where they go...

People kill and cook rabbits for food... Should they be punished too? The western society has been raised that all things cute and cuddly should remain as that, cute and cuddly. To me, I couldn't eat something like cat, but if you think about it, food is food.

China has no problem with eating dogs. It's a little different tho. It's like our cattle ranches, but they have 'dog ranches.' Weird thought, huh?

There are plenty of laws that regulate cruelty and mistreatment of animals. I'm not surprised at all it's a misdemeanor.
