2D drawing app?

Can anyone recommend a good, simple 2D drawing application (to run on WinXP)? Nothing too fancy, just something to do some basic drawings (in metric & imperial).

presumably something a bit fancier than paint and word graphics?
what're you looking to draw up, roughly?

adobe illustrator is great. I guess it might be over kill but I use it to make templates for my boards (and do a whole board in a couple minutes if i know exactly what i want) because it is great for drawing something where it has to be percise and to a scale. but there are other free things out there that im sure work just as well, like maybe a free cad program, but then again its complex. although any software can be gotten for free

Maybe GIMP. It's like Photoshop but free.

Yea, gimp is great. almost evry feature that is in photoshop is included with it.

I found a demo version of a port of a program I worked on many years ago (PC Draft).

Google Sketchup.....pretty cool program, but it's more 3D than anything..not very good for drawing amazing drawings in 2d, but 3D= awesome..... I would totally download it if I were you.....it is fun/cool for noodling around on....and it's free anyway...so no loss....

just type in Sketchup on Google and you will easily find it....

after reading this i downloaded Gimp. Its alot like Photoshop in tons of ways. it took me a while to get used to it having used photoshop for a few years. but now i think i got it.

(did this in the first 15min)
