Is being nice worth it?
In my opinion I feel as though I am nothing but nice to people. I try to help them, I will often give them stuff, I will not make fun of them if I know it may hurt them, and I don't hurt people for fun.
Is it worth it to be nice? Even by being nice it never ceases to fail me how people can be such assholes and just crap all over you. Should i just become a giant asshole and start making fun of everyone and putting everyone down? It's not my nature but should I?
Or should I just ignore it because the people who are mean, negative, and sadistic have no sunshine, happiness, and or are making up for something inf there life.
You know how people say everyone has a place on this Earth?
Well maybe my place is to be the punching bag for everyone malicious and insecure on this world and make them feel better about themselves.
Imput is greatly appreciate.

Re: Is being nice worth it?
i just ignore those i dont like, or who are jerks. Theres no need to subject yourself to others comments or harsh behaviors.
BTW, if I'm ever a jerk to you, or anyone else, im definitely joking.
Unless you're Sherpa, or Worldwide, in which case, i actually do hate you

If your not skating for fun, what are you skating for?

Re: Is being nice worth it?
Being nice, if you do it to be thought of as nice--wast of time. If you do it because it genuinely is
your nature, or because your honor dictates it, it is your own reward to stand apart from your tormentors.
Go rent the old Jimmy Stewart movie 'Harvey' and watch it. My dad made sure I watched it. And
I am the richer for it.
They have a line in there, about how you can be "Oh so nice, or oh so clever".
Another great rental, the anime series 'Irresponsible Captain Tylor". The central theme is similar:
Do as you like, and in all you do, do your best. Then await Heaven's Judgement. You did your best--which is more than most.
Very uplifting stuff I think. And funny to the gills without relying on fat jokes, toilet humor or
inflicting tremendous amounts of pain.
Some pain though--pain is the source of humor after all. It hurts too much to NOT laugh. And thus
you attain catharsis.
Or per Hamlet "To thine own self be true" the rest is all ballocks anyway.

Re: Is being nice worth it?
Go see a shrink.
These are common feelings for a person your age. But, when you don't seek help, your questions becomes gaping holes and then you become swallowed up in self doubt and depression.
You may have signs of depression already.
If you dont get yourself checked out, I will take a trip out to LI. Then you will need to see a orthopedist.

Re: Is being nice worth it?
Just replace the word "nice" with "cool".
Being cool to people is better in the long run, and yes girls too. People will say "he's a really cool guy" when you're not around. I believe in being yourself and if people don't like you who cares. People get sick of jerks.

Re: Is being nice worth it?
Your place on Earth is whatever you want it to be; what you make of your time on this planet. There is no higher being, there is no single answer, there is no big guy in the sky watching you and making you do every little thing you do. You must not let other people's actions or words matter more than your own thoughts or instincts. If you doubt yourself like that, you'll only be in trouble in the long run.
Now, back to this lack of religion or politics...

Re: Is being nice worth it?
Cosmiccase, if you are nice for the return from other people, you aren't really being nice are you?
Don't be nice for what it gets you, be nice for who you see in the mirror.

I'm not being nice get things from people. My statment was misconstrued, completey. I was simply stating that lately I have been a little extra nice to a special person, and I haven't got a thing in return besides added stress and complexity to my life. This person, I'm not being nice to this person because I should get something in return, I'm being this way because I choose too. But instead of getting happiness in return I get added stress and nothing more.
