anyone in/know about alaska?
i'm going to alaska (around juneau) to snowboard and chill the beginning of this summer. i don't know much about it except some snowboard spots i've scouted and that weed is legal.
if anyone has been there and has suggestions to improve my trip i'd appreciate it. i'd also like to deflower some unridden hills while i'm there... we'll see what there is!

Re: anyone in/know about alaska?
I've been there a few times, but never to snowboard and I don't think weed was legal at any point. Who knows, maybe it is!
How are you getting there? Flight direct? Are you old enough to legally drink? There's a brewery west of town with a killer, open tap hospitality room policy. My Dad and I had 6 pints of beer with those guys. Are you going anywhere else in AK, during your trip? It's a very pretty state with a lot to see if you like things outdoors and have brought your own wimminfolk.

Re: anyone in/know about alaska?
I lived 13 years in Alaska ... but not the Juneau area. If you get a little farther up north go to the Matanuska Valley. The main towns in the Valley are Wasilla and Palmer. You want to go to Hatcher Pass. It's 13 miles of continuous downhill in the Talkeetna mountains. Also of interest is the road to Lake Eklutna on the other side of the Valley (in the Chugach Mountains). I've never done the Eklutna road. I swapped e-mails with a guy that did though. He said it was really intense. I don't think it's quite as long as the Hatcher Pass road, but it has to be at least 10 miles. Also, the road up to the trailhead at Lazy Mountain just outside Palmer is krazy-ass STEEP, straight as an arrow, and prolly about a mile or maybe a little less. I never found the courage to bomb that "hill".
Here's the thread about my Hatcher Pass adventure a year or so ago:

Re: anyone in/know about alaska?
If you encounter a bear, that magnum will seem like a pea-shooter. Seriously.
If you're into the weed, then you have to visit the town of Tok, if only for the t-shirt. Ha ha!!! I have no idea how big or little it is these days, but that's a town on a crossroads of the Al-Can Highway.

Re: anyone in/know about alaska?
Yeah, that link I put in my post was the link ... but the photos all go to some goofy page now. I dunno what happened.
The Hatcher Pass road is slower than I expected EXCEPT for one sphincter-shrinking long, steep, straight shot with an incredibly TIGHT hairpin curve at the bottom. I'm tellin' ya - you foot break and you will wear through the bottom of your shoe right up to your knee. It's best to keep the speed under control there. You will know the stretch when you come around the curve on the way up ...

ask Malakai, I he told me he used to live there and he dated a polar bear.
If your not skating for fun, what are you skating for?

Re: anyone in/know about alaska?
A Cheechako (city boy) arrives in Alaska and approaches an old Sourdough. He asks, "What do I have to do to become a real Alaskan?
The Sourdough replies, "You have to kill a grizzly bear and make love to an Eskimo."
The Cheechako walks out of the bar, and is not seen again for days. Eventually he comes back. He's all ripped up and nearly dead. He approaches the Sourdough and asks, "OK. Now where's that Eskimo I hafta kill?"
